Happy New Year to all our volunteers, full time colleagues and our patients past and future. We wish you all the best for whatever you hope for the New Year.

27/12/2025

We hope everyone across the Carlisle area has had a wonderful festive period. Over the holidays, our dedicated Community First Responders volunteered an incredible 33 hours and 42 minutes on call to your 999 calls 🚑🎄

During this time, they responded to both Category 1 and Category 2 emergency calls—providing vital support to our community when it mattered most.

A huge thank you to our volunteers for giving up their time over the festive period to help keep others safe đź’™

From everyone at Carlisle & District, we hope you’ve had a joyful Christmas, Hanukkah, and Bodhi, and we wish you a happy Kwanzaa as the celebrations continue.

For Christmas Day today, we have Ben and Mike providing cover for the Carlisle and District area. They have already attended vital calls for help and will continue to do so throughout the day. As a team, we wish them, and all of our patients, volunteers and colleagues at North West Ambulance Service, a very Merry Christmas.

25/12/2025

Many of our staff and volunteers won’t be spending Christmas Day with their families and friends today; they’ll be busy saving lives and helping those in need. We want to say a huge thank you to them, and wish them, and all our communities across the North West, a very merry Christmas. 🎄

Amid the festivities, we also take a moment to recognise our Christian colleagues, for whom Christmas Day holds special significance as they celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

December is a busy time of festivities and preparations, but don’t let the essentials slip through the cracks! Remember to order your repeat prescriptions in time for the bank holidays, even if it means adding a reminder to your shopping list.
You can order a repeat prescription by logging into your account using the NHS app/NHS website.

⚠️ We appreciate that this is a long post, but it may be helpful to somebody you know, so please save and share it if you can; it could save a life over the festivities. ⚠️

If you are struggling or feeling low, here’s a reminder of some important numbers that could help you:
Samaritans - Call: 116 123 - 24/7
Text Shout to 85258 - 24/7
CALM - Call: 0800 58 58 58 - web chat 5pm to midnight every day
PAPYRUS Hopeline247 - Call: 0800 068 4141 or text: 88247 - 24/7
Mind Infoline – Call: 0300 123 3393 - 9am to 6pm, Monday to Friday (except for bank holidays).
You can also call NHS 111 and select option 2, where you can access round-the-clock support from a mental health professional in your area, anytime you’re facing a mental health crisis.
Please note, this number is not for repeat prescriptions regarding mental health, you will need to contact your GP practice or prescriber for this.

If someone’s life is at immediate risk, for example, they have seriously injured themselves or taken an overdose - call 999 or go to A&E.
Again, please save and share; it could save a life. Thank you.đź’š

Did you know that NHS 111 is available online?
The web page will ask specific questions about your condition and provide you with the same advice as we would on the telephone. If needs be, you will be called back by one of our clinicians. 111.nhs.uk

If you have no access to the internet, or the patient is under five years old, we still recommend you call 111

Looking after a family member this Christmas? If so, falls in the home can be life-changing. Simple things, such as clearing the clutter, improving lighting, and mopping up spillages that may cause a trip hazard, can help minimise the risks for ourselves and our loved ones.
See link in comments or more info.

Ringing 999 does not guarantee that you'll receive an ambulance, or that you'll be seen at hospital any faster.
We prioritise life-threatening emergencies first, so if your condition isn’t critical, you may wait longer or receive advice over the phone instead.
If you’re unsure but need medical advice quickly, use NHS 111 online or call 111 for children five and under.
