Big things are happening at Werndale

Our extension project is in full swing, and we’re making incredible progress. Here’s what’s happening on site:

✅ We’ve rerouted the drainage systems to prepare for the new building
✅ The ground level has been lowered to make space for the extension
✅ We’re digging deep for the foundations and starting to pour concrete later this month

We’re on track to complete the foundation stage in the new year, marking a major milestone in our journey to expand and enhance patient care for communities across Wales.

We remain fully open to patients throughout the works, ensuring the same high standard of care you expect from us.

A huge thank you to our hard-working Portering team, who are going above and beyond to support visitors on site. They’re manning the car park and making sure every visit runs smoothly - your dedication is truly appreciated!

Festive fun at Werndale 🎄✨🎄✨

This December, our team has truly embraced the Christmas spirit. We kicked things off with a fantastic Christmas dinner party in Carmarthen – a wonderful way to celebrate together. Then we kept the momentum going with a delicious Christmas lunch, giving colleagues time to relax and connect.

Alongside the fun, we’ve been making a difference. Christmas Jumper Day and our Annual Advent Raffle raised vital funds for Wales Air Ambulance Charity, our Charity of the Year since 2022.

At Werndale Hospital, we care deeply about our local community and we’re honoured to have played a small part in the incredible work the Carmarthen Foodbank team does to help families who need a little extra support. Thank you to our kind staff who took part in this collection.

We’re also supporting Circle Health Group’s ‘Just 1 Thing’ initiative this month, which encourages our 8,000 staff across the UK, to donate one extra item to their local food bank every time they shop. It’s a simple idea that can make a big difference to those in need.

As part of our Giving Something Back pledge, this year Circle Health Group formed two national charity partnerships, supporting Alzheimer's Society, which provides much-needed support to people and families affected by Alzheimer’s, and Trussell Trust, which works tirelessly to fight hunger across the UK.

🌊 Caring for our coastline 🌊

Earlier this month members of our Werndale team joined Keep Wales Tidy for a beach clean at Tenby North Beach. It was a wonderful opportunity to support our local environment and spend time with the community.

Families, children, and even a few four-legged friends came along to help keep this beautiful stretch of coastline clean and safe.

We’re proud to play a small part in protecting the places we all enjoy. Thank you to everyone who joined us and to Keep Wales Tidy for leading such an important initiative.

💙 Today marks World Radiography Day💙

This special day celebrates the incredible work of radiographers and the vital role they play in patient care. From creating high-quality diagnostic images to ensuring radiation safety, their expertise makes a real difference every single day.

At Werndale Hospital, we marked the occasion earlier this week with our amazing radiology team. We shared Radiation Awareness Packs, displayed safety posters throughout the hospital, and treated the team to lunch and sweet treats as a small token of appreciation.

🗨 October is Freedom to Speak Up month 🗨

Freedom to Speak Up (FTSU) is a national framework in Wales that empowers health and social care staff to raise concerns safely and confidently. Supported by Welsh Government policy, it promotes a culture of openness, with independent Guardians available to listen and support.

We're proud to champion a culture where every voice is valued. Whether it's sharing an idea, supporting a colleague or raising a concern, speaking up helps build a safer, kinder environment for all.

Our Freedom to Speak Up Guardian, Donna Walsh, recently hosted an all staff drop-in session. It was a great opportunity to learn more about her role and the vital importance of open, honest communication in healthcare. Donna's insights were a powerful reminder that speaking up isn't just encouraged - it's essential.

Let's keep creating workplaces where speaking up is welcomed, respected and leads to meaningful change.

🛡️ Supporting our team this winter 🛡️

We’re committed to keeping our staff safe and well, so they can continue providing outstanding care to every patient who visits us. Last week, we began offering our flu vaccinations to any staff who wanted one — helping protect them, their loved ones, and everyone who visits our hospital.

So why does the flu vaccine make such a difference?
✅ It helps reduce the spread — even if you don’t have symptoms
✅ It protects vulnerable patients from serious illness
✅ It helps keep services running smoothly during winter pressures
✅ It’s safe, quick, and well-tolerated
