Over the past few weeks I’ve been giving out my annual price increases gradually, and honestly, it never gets easier.
Sometimes people only see the hours spent in their home, but the cost of a service is so much more than that. It’s late nights washing and disinfecting cloths, maintaining hoovers and equipment, stocking up on products at weekends, admin after hours, being available almost 24/7 and always being mentally switched on for the business.
It’s also the physical side — the aches, back pain, sore hands, and the wear and tear on both my body and my car getting from job to job. There’s no sick pay, no annual leave, no paid holidays, if I don’t work, I don’t earn, and all of that filters into the real cost of running a small business.
What a business makes is very different from what actually becomes take-home pay once tax and expenses are covered.
Price increases aren’t about greed, they’re about keeping a service sustainable and professional long term.
A massive thank you to the clients who told me I deserved an increase without me even asking — your support truly means the world 🐝💛
