Silence is where sound comes from and where it returns - the space that surrounds it. Silence is within us all, a healing refuge and place of potential.

Many of us have an uneasy relationship with silence: we might crave it at an unconscious level but we also fear it. In the context of sound healing, silence is our greatest ally.

The benefits and shifts that healing sound can bring need silence to settle within us. Whether you’re using your voice or a healing instrument, allow pauses between the sounds and build in a period of silence at the end.

Receiving sound without the time and space to integrate it may reduce its healing effects.

Continuous sound can feel like an assault on the senses and the nervous system and may potentially stir up more than we are able to process at that moment.

After sound healing, ease yourself gently back into the world and hydrate well over the following days.

Your thoughts and intentions are more powerful than you may realise. Positive intentions direct the energy of sound and enhance its healing power.

Focus your thoughts and settle on a clear intention before you begin to sound with your voice or a healing instrument. You might bring your attention to an area of physical or emotional discomfort, a mental block or some aspect of your life where you would like to invite in change.

Reciting a simple mantra which invokes the special powers of a deity, such as the flowing communication of Sarasvati or the ability of Ganesh to remove obstacles, draws these qualities into our energy and existence.

Sun sinking and crows settling for the night. As I left the town and my senses tuned into these sights and sounds, I could feel my breathing slow down and my nervous system settling too 🌅

Think of singing a lullaby to a child and imagine bringing that pure intention to yourself. When we add positive intention to our voice, it gives it a powerful healing charge.

Our bodies our natural sounding chambers with each part of us resonating at a different frequency. The vibrations in our own or another’s voice can shift stuck energy and restore flow and harmony within us.

It starts with our breath. Becoming conscious of the rise and fall of it. Putting our focus there for a few moments and tuning into the natural rhythm of our breathing.

When we add sound - a soft sigh, a deep groan or some pure-toned vowel sounds - we bring healing vibration and resonance into our body systems and energy field which continues after the sound has ended.

Making vocal sound helps us to release thoughts and feelings we’ve been holding onto and connect with our body and the present moment.

It activates our vagus nerve to bring our nervous system back into a more balanced and peaceful state.

Place your feet firmly on the ground or imagine yourself standing barefoot on grass, sand, rock or soil.

Expand your belly as you inhale, drawing the energy up from the earth through your feet 🌏

As you exhale slowly, sound a long low tone. Whatever comes naturally.

Feel the vibrations in your body and your energy field. Release negative thoughts back down into the earth as you sound.

Repeat as needed 🌀

Add some simple sound to your outbreath🗣️

An audible sigh 😅
A hum 💋
A soft AH, OO or EE as you exhale 🎵

Then repeat 🌀

Vocal sound and repetition help us to switch off our thinking mind and surrender to the rhythm of our breath 🌞
