Another great day delivering Emergency First Aid at Work training with the DRLC team at The Burton Street Foundation

A brilliant group of staff, all fully engaged and getting stuck into the practical elements of the course. From CPR and AED use to managing real life workplace scenarios, everyone showed confidence and a real willingness to learn skills that could one day save a life.

This is what it’s all about. Giving people the knowledge and confidence to act when it matters most.

A brilliant evening delivering an informal 2 hour paediatric first aid session for parents at this week.

A huge shout out to manager Penny, whose passion for not only her team and the children in her care, but also the families around them, really stands out. Creating opportunities like this outside of normal hours shows just how committed she is to her setting and community.

It was great to see parents taking the time to learn vital, life saving skills in a relaxed and supportive environment. Because first aid is not just for professionals, it is for everyone.

A day late, but I hope everyone had a lovely Mother’s Day weekend.

Being a mum to these three is the reason I started my business. I wanted parents, grandparents, and anyone caring for children to feel confident knowing what to do in an emergency. Because when it’s your own child, those moments really matter.

Motherhood is the hardest job in the world. It’s the worry, the responsibility, the constant thinking about keeping them safe and healthy. People don’t always tell you just how big that responsibility feels.

That’s why teaching first aid means so much to me. Every parent should have the confidence to help their child if something happens.

To all the mums, step mums, grandmas and carers out there, you are doing an amazing job.

Happy Friday!

It has been a busy week delivering Paediatric and Emergency First Aid at Work qualifications.

From the school staff at Orchard Primary Academy to the team at Generator Power LTD, I have worked with such a wide range of roles and experience. Different perspectives, different discussions, but all with the same goal. To gain the skills and confidence to save a life.

I genuinely never take for granted how lucky I am to be trusted with this training. Every course is interactive, practical and designed to build real confidence, not just tick a box.

Now I am enjoying a quiet sit down with a brew before next week begins and the admin catches up with me.

Happy Flipping Pancake Day 🥞

Pancake Day is one of the busiest days of the year for kitchen burns, with visits to the NHS burns advice page almost doubling as people look for help after cooking accidents.

So while you’re working on the perfect flip, here’s a quick reminder of what to do if a burn happens:

🔥 Burn first aid
• Move away from the heat source
• Remove jewellery or clothing near the burn (unless stuck to the skin)
• Cool the burn under cool running water for a minimum of 20 minutes
• Remember, ‘minimum’ means if the burning sensation is still there, keep cooling for longer
• After cooling, loosely cover with cling film or a clean dressing
• Seek medical help if the burn is large, deep, or on the face, hands or joints

👉 If a baby or young child suffers a burn, it’s always safest to have it checked by a medical professional.

🚫 Avoid ice, butter or creams as they can make burns worse.

Enjoy the pancakes, keep little helpers safe in the kitchen, and have a fun and burn-free Pancake Day.

Another fantastic Baby and Child First Aid class today, this time for parents and grandparents, hosted by the brilliant team at Iron Circle Fitness

People are often surprised when they see who attends my public first aid courses.

Last week I welcomed members of the Nikle Construction team onto one of my public first aid courses.

Many people assume I only deliver paediatric first aid training. While this is my specialist area, and much of my work is with nurseries, schools and EYFS settings, my courses are open to anyone wanting the confidence to respond in an emergency, whether at work or in everyday life.

One of the things I enjoy most about public courses is the variety of job roles in the room. Having people from construction, education, childcare and other industries training together brings real life scenarios into discussions and helps everyone see how first aid situations can look very different depending on where you are. Emergencies do not only happen in one setting, and learning together helps people think more broadly about risk and response.

My aviation background also plays a big part in how I deliver training. Aviation focuses heavily on safety, communication and managing emergencies calmly and effectively. I bring this same mindset into my courses, helping people think not just about what to do, but how to keep themselves and others safe while doing it.

Whether you work with children, on a construction site, or in an office, first aid is a skill that benefits everyone.

Great group to train, with plenty of laughs alongside some really important learning.

Running 1st Steps First Aid, flying as cabin crew, and raising three amazing kids means life is busy, but it’s also why I love what I do.

Every course I deliver, every setting I visit, and every person I train is about one simple thing…..keeping families, workplaces and communities safer.

Because first aid isn’t just something I teach, it’s part of everyday life.
