This week I welcomed back Premier Sport- Leeds & Castleford for their Paediatric First Aid renewal, and what a brilliant group they were.

The video shows part of their practical assessments. Confident CPR, clear communication, strong teamwork and safe decision making throughout.

Every single candidate passed.
And not just passed….passed to a high standard.

Renewals are never just a tick box exercise.
We revisit the why behind what we do.
We refine technique.
We build confidence.
We make sure that if something happens, they are ready.

Premier Education work with children every day, so keeping their skills sharp matters. It was a pleasure to see their professionalism shine through in every scenario.

If your team’s qualification is coming up for renewal, don’t leave it until the last minute. High quality, hands on training makes all the difference.

Happy Flipping Pancake Day 🥞

Pancake Day is one of the busiest days of the year for kitchen burns, with visits to the NHS burns advice page almost doubling as people look for help after cooking accidents.

So while you’re working on the perfect flip, here’s a quick reminder of what to do if a burn happens:

🔥 Burn first aid
• Move away from the heat source
• Remove jewellery or clothing near the burn (unless stuck to the skin)
• Cool the burn under cool running water for a minimum of 20 minutes
• Remember, ‘minimum’ means if the burning sensation is still there, keep cooling for longer
• After cooling, loosely cover with cling film or a clean dressing
• Seek medical help if the burn is large, deep, or on the face, hands or joints

👉 If a baby or young child suffers a burn, it’s always safest to have it checked by a medical professional.

🚫 Avoid ice, butter or creams as they can make burns worse.

Enjoy the pancakes, keep little helpers safe in the kitchen, and have a fun and burn-free Pancake Day.

Another fantastic Baby and Child First Aid class today, this time for parents and grandparents, hosted by the brilliant team at Iron Circle Fitness

From the moment I arrived, the welcome was warm and friendly, and you can really feel the family atmosphere throughout the gym. Iron Circle Fitness isn’t just a place to train, it’s a community space where people of all ages feel comfortable and supported.

What makes this venue even more special is that they offer sessions for the whole family, helping parents, and also children stay active together. A perfect match for a class focused on keeping families safe and confident in an emergency.

If you’re a parent, grandparent or carer who wants the confidence to handle situations like choking, CPR, burns, bleeding or seizures, my Baby and Child First Aid classes are designed specifically for you. Practical, relaxed and easy to follow, so you leave feeling prepared rather than overwhelmed.

A big thank you again to Iron Circle Fitness for hosting!

If your venue, school, nursery or community group would like to host a parent first aid session, get in touch.

People are often surprised when they see who attends my public first aid courses.

Last week I welcomed members of the Nikle Construction team onto one of my public first aid courses.

Many people assume I only deliver paediatric first aid training. While this is my specialist area, and much of my work is with nurseries, schools and EYFS settings, my courses are open to anyone wanting the confidence to respond in an emergency, whether at work or in everyday life.

One of the things I enjoy most about public courses is the variety of job roles in the room. Having people from construction, education, childcare and other industries training together brings real life scenarios into discussions and helps everyone see how first aid situations can look very different depending on where you are. Emergencies do not only happen in one setting, and learning together helps people think more broadly about risk and response.

My aviation background also plays a big part in how I deliver training. Aviation focuses heavily on safety, communication and managing emergencies calmly and effectively. I bring this same mindset into my courses, helping people think not just about what to do, but how to keep themselves and others safe while doing it.

Whether you work with children, on a construction site, or in an office, first aid is a skill that benefits everyone.

Great group to train, with plenty of laughs alongside some really important learning.

Public courses and workplace training dates are available throughout the year. Get in touch if you would like to get booked in.

I thought I’d join in…..and I think it sums me up quite well!

Behind every course, flight, and early morning laptop session is family. ❤️

Running 1st Steps First Aid, flying as cabin crew, and raising three amazing kids means life is busy, but it’s also why I love what I do.

Every course I deliver, every setting I visit, and every person I train is about one simple thing…..keeping families, workplaces and communities safer.

Because first aid isn’t just something I teach, it’s part of everyday life.

Thank you to all the nurseries, schools, businesses and organisations who trust 1st Steps First Aid with their training. And thank you to my own little team at home who make it all possible.

Fresh outfits for the baby dolls and another fantastic new setting on board!

Last week I delivered Paediatric First Aid training at .daynursery, and it’s been brilliant to see such a committed team getting fully involved in the practical sessions.

The video shows staff working through real-life scenarios, practising the skills that make all the difference when a child needs help, from CPR and choking management to dealing with common childhood emergencies. Hands-on practice is what builds confidence, and confidence is what saves lives.

It’s always a proud moment when a new setting trusts me with their training, and even more so when the feedback is:
“It was the best first aid training they’ve have received, you were thorough but had a laugh with them and made them feel at ease.”

My aim is always the same, to deliver training that is professional, practical and genuinely enjoyable, so staff leave feeling confident, capable and ready to act if needed.

If your nursery, school or childcare setting needs engaging, high-quality first aid training for your team, get in touch, I’d love to work with you too.

This week I’m in the Lake District delivering first aid training for hotel staff.

It’s a considerable distance from home, but the hotel is owned by one of my local clients. The fact they trust my training enough to bring me this far, purely to ensure their staff are trained to a high standard, genuinely means a lot.

This is what good partnerships are built on:
Consistency.
Credibility.
A shared commitment to safety.

For me, it’s never just about ticking a box. It’s about giving teams real confidence to respond properly if something goes wrong.

This was the view from my room this morning. A pretty special way to start the day, and a reminder of how fortunate I am to do work that’s valued.

Have a look at this beautiful hotel The Eltermere Inn …..and of course the staff are amazing first aiders!

If your organisation values high-quality, engaging first aid training that people actually remember and feel confident using, I’d love to hear from you.

Today I have been at The Old Quarry Adventure Playground - The Addy teaching parents and grandparents first aid for their babies and children 💚

It’s a short, informal course but the skills learned in those few hours could one day save their child’s life.

One of the hardest truths is this:
Most parents will face a moment where their child chokes, has a high fever, a fall, or suddenly becomes unwell and in that moment panic is natural.
First aid training turns panic into action.

Accidents remain one of the biggest risks to children once they reach toddler age.
But the good news?
These are skills every parent can learn.

Every mum, dad, grandparent and carer deserves the confidence to protect the little people they love most.

If you’ve ever thought “I should really learn first aid” this is your sign 💫

With the new year underway, it is the perfect time for businesses to review whether all staff are up to date with their first aid training. It is not just about compliance. It is about confidence, competence, and being ready to act when it really matters.

At 1st Steps First Aid, training is never a tick box exercise. Every course is practical, realistic and designed to give learners the confidence to step forward in an emergency, whether that is in the workplace, at home, or out in the community.

If you are a business looking to refresh your first aid provision for 2026, now is the time to get it booked in.

🎬 Yesterday’s Emergency First Aid at Work qualification at Generator Power LTD

A great session with a team who were fully engaged and committed to learning skills that genuinely save lives.

It was a pleasure to deliver paediatric first aid qualification training again for a returning client.

This session included practical training in infant CPR and AED use, supporting learners to develop confidence, competence and consistency in their emergency response. While this video highlights one key element, the full qualification covers a comprehensive range of paediatric first aid scenarios aligned with current best practice.

Repeat bookings reflect the value organisations place on high-quality, engaging training, and I’m grateful for the continued trust.

I deliver accredited paediatric and adult first aid courses across Yorkshire, alongside regular open courses in Castleford for individuals and small teams.

What better way to see in the New Year and chase away the January blues than taking your family away on a little mini trip to Barbados.

I’m incredibly lucky to have two jobs that I genuinely love. Balancing life as cabin crew alongside running my own business isn’t always easy, and it definitely takes a lot of juggling, but I make it work for moments like this.

Grateful for the opportunities, the hard work, and the memories we get to make along the way.

One of those moments that makes the hard work feel worthwhile.
