So, we have used the recent down time to give the front of the clinic a new look! The white should also hopefully keep the temperature down in reception during summer, a double bonus!

This photo was taken at Kew Gardens, which i recently visited with a friend. It was great to see some of their Christmas decorations go up - but we spent sometime in unseasonal paradise too!

Many of my patients are being stopped from doing the things they love most, by pain.

A lot of the time the treatment is orientated around this issue. Helping my patients play on the carpet with their grandkids, tackle the grisley old fence in the garden or enjoy a day walking around London are not uncommon goals.

The Inflammatory Response.

This weekend i was unfortunate enough to be stung by some stinging nettles. I'm pretty clumsy so this isn't unlike me, however it has been a while since it was on a part of my body I could so easily peer at!

I thought it was fascinating how red and inflamed it became! On reflection, I probably shouldn't have rubbed it so vigorously with the dock leaf - something that I suspect is largely placebo, but it did make me feel better.

This reaction occurs when our bodies are damaged. So when you pull a muscle or sprain a ligament, this is what happens.

But did you know its part of our healing process? Without this response our bodies wouldn't heal.

So next time you hear inflammation, remember it is a normal mechanism essential to the optimal function of our bodies. The pain we feel associated with inflammation is a reminder to slow down, take notice and take care, to allow for healing and for recovery to take place.
