“You are beautiful (and full of beauty) BECAUSE of your scars. Not despite them.” That is what my inner mentor says to me…

You won’t see it at first glance. Only if you look closely. But the skin on my face has so many scars.

My gut health was obliterated in 2019/2020 (abuse, divorce, being ostracised my those close to me) and my skin was the way my body showed me it needed help.

I am so glad I invested in the help of after being recommended her by someone at Pai skincare 🥰

👉🏼 working with a specialist helped.
👉🏼 working with someone who knows her stuff helped.
👉🏼 working with someone who CARES helps, not just money guzzling pranksters (been there 🖕🏼).
👉🏼 working with someone who kinda lives and breaths what they do helped as she oozes integrity…
👉🏼 And working with someone who doesn’t gaslight and gets it, has been there themselves (perhaps).

💡 You know you can work with me to help with your matrescence and motherhood experience?
🔥 Or to help you be a better advocate for yourself and your family.

💗 It REALLY makes a difference when you invest in someone to help instead of trying to do it all on your own.

— F**k the metaphorical cape, we’re not superheroes and that’s ok.

Anyone else a hopeless/hopeful romantic?!

Roly and I watched Jane Eyre on the weekend. He knows I love period dramas and found it on DVD 🥰.

(Even being able to watch what I want can sometimes come as a sort of surprise after being in a lousy relationship, and let’s be honest, being a parent 🤣 and “sure I’ll watch ‘such and such’ for the billionth time”.)

We watched the 2011 film with Michael Fassbender and Mia Wasikowska. I was gripped. I squeezed Roly’s arm at all the exciting and tense bits!

As long as I can remember I have been utterly in LOVE with period dramas about love stories and this (even though I’ve seen it before, years ago) did not disappoint.

What you may or may not know about me is I’ve had my belief in love shattered, to a degree.

My belief in the love I dreamed of as a little girl was well and truly destroyed by abuse and betrayal.

I gave so much of myself to relationships in my past, but suffered at the hands of… let’s just say those in need of some work on themselves.

But my belief in true and deep, secure love is mended now ❤️

Due to Motherhood and my love for Matilda ❤️ (and her me).

And due to finding Roly . AND after us separating in the past (me choosing myself for a time) and him not giving up and knowing we still had — HAVE — such a great love.

We have the type of love little Lucy dreamed of ❤️ and that we see in stories like those of Jane Austen’s and Charlotte Bronté’s.

Thank you Jane and Charlotte (and many more) for your stories that move me to heart-swelling, joyful tears ❤️

I’ve chosen the lovely, stirring music from the film where 🤐 (I won’t spoil it in case you’ve not seen it)🎵.

How is your relationship with food?!

I’m not even joking that IG chose this track for me. Perfect eh?! (How people can demonise food.)

As a coach for women and personal trainer this is something I’ve spoken about with most (if not all) of my 1:1 clients.

👉🏼 Nutrition matters.
👉🏼 It makes a difference to your life in many ways.
👉🏼 But I will NOT f**king shame you, judge you, condemn your feelings about food.

We’re not robots. We have emotions. All the emotions…

Sometimes we may choose to eat so called s**te food options. And yes we may know ‘better’.

But sometimes it feels good to scrape out the Biscoff jar… and a raw (dried fruit etc) cake/fruit sugars simply don’t cut it.

When I worked at The Third Space in London, we didn’t have a staff room. So we’d eat in sight of the members and f**k me they would ALWAYS walk by, look and comment:

“Ooh! You gonna work off those calories later?!”… In jest — supposedly. It was such a bore! 🙄

I’d often want to say back “my soul needed carbs so hush…” or similar.

Burlesque has become a big part of who I am now. And I love it!!

Burlesque has taught me so much about myself. I think people can often forget that and assume it’s just a matter of going through steps, like a robot.

Sure, it can be!

But you can also do it with heart, with soul, with story, with sass. It’s up to you.

Burlesque has literally unveiled a version of me I didn’t know — or that had been pushed down and not heard for a while.

Due to:

👉🏼 MOTHERHOOD. Mothering (solo) in systems that expect us to be martyrs and always give to others.

👉🏼 NEGLECT/ABUSE. I take ownership of my lack of self-advocacy in the past, but I sure wasn’t helped by those who benefitted from me being a people pleaser.

👉🏼 LIFE. I hadn’t yet nurtured the side of me that loves to dress up, and be more feminine due to all sorts but largely a career in fitness and being a bit of a tomboy…

Would you like to try burlesque with me at Three Guineasng ?

Join me for 2.5 hours on International Women’s Day, March 8th for a classRob / Head Dropmore of a workshop feel 🤓 and lots of fun too!

This first quote from Brené reminds me of working at two of the great, high end health clubs I’ve been privileged to work at as a personal trainer; The Third Space and Equinox.

I worked at the original clubs for each of them (Soho and High Street Kensington), as there are now several of each across London.

We were trained well. People cared about integrity, form, the body, the education and not so much about photos, poses and fake s**t.

I’m tired of seeing people who do not care about what they do; virtue signalling, posing and shallowness. No real depth or long lasting education to what they’re teaching and certainly no true specialism in perinatal wellness. — Something which I’m very passionate about.

And yes, it’s not everyone. I’m grateful for those who do care and know their stuff — and themselves — better than falling for BS trends.

I’m not blaming the coaches per se, but the way the world is — hungry for fast and often superficial/fake change.

I LOVE what Tony, Brené’s trainer says to her (pic 2 here):

“We’re not going to build on dysfunction.”

And the last quote on page 3 here is TALKING MY LANGUAGE…

Body literacy baby... respecting, revering and LISTENING to our body. So, frickin’ valuable.

All quotes above are from ‘Strong Ground’, Brown’s latest book.

Thank you, as always Brené. Your work can change lives. And did mine, many years ago.
