🌙Before it hits midnight - I can say 2 years ago I picked up the keys to my studio/office!

I’ve thought about this the past days. Reflecting on everything that’s happened since starting my practice, personally and around this globe.

But as I reflect, it has passed midnight 😅 and my brain is clearly telling me ´I thought we were on holiday?!’ And refusing to work.

Happy new year 2023 may it bring good memories 🌸

Help raise funds to buy art materials for an Art Therapy project with Ukrainian refugees. The refugees, primarily mothers with children and grandmothers, are based in Cieszyn, a town on the Polish border with the Czech Republic, where Margaret Hills de Zárate will be working as a volunteer Art Therapist.

Only £65 to go to meet their target of £750.

🎨Paint without paint 🖌️

Too abstract for Monday? Apologies.

Here are 3 items that just need some water to create a paint effect. 🖌️

Why? because paint can be messy which puts some people off giving it a go. Most of us have used a pencil, pen or crayon before, so finding one that is aquarelle helps open up the posibility of painting.

Adding water transforms the lines and colours, which makes it unpredictable and helps us
go with the flow.

If you are journalling these are also elements you can easily carry around along with a paintbrush (or brush with water compartment!)

You can keep your marks as they are, add water or both!

And I'll admit I find it a little magical✨

🚙 A few months ago my car's starter motor went. Before that, every morning was spent coaxing my car into starting.

❄️These winter months I have empathised with my poor car. Even if my body is there, my brain 🧠 will not start up on first attempt.

There's no moral to this story. Just that winter is tough and I relate to my car. 🚙

Happy February 1st 🌱

I could say something about growth, transformation and change is on the way. But I'd bore myself. Instead, here are some lovely, lively little sprigs. 🌱💐☀️

I planted herb seeds a couple of weeks ago and they are sprouting. I love checking on them every morning and the feeling of excitement when one sprouts up. 🌱☀️🤗🥳

The magic of these simple things brings to mind a quote -

Here is a watercolour technique I enjoy in a free moment when I want to relax or reflect. If you want to try the same thing, here are some tips 🖌️⁠

☀️Make circles with your brush⁠

☀️Go with the flow⁠

☀️Experiment with the amount of water and paint you have on the brush⁠

☀️Choose a colour palette to keep it harmonised⁠

☀️Think of a place you love and colours associated with it⁠

☀️Listen to your favourite music⁠

☀️Be patient, allow time for the paint to dry and colours to change⁠

Art as therapy? Or Art Therapy ?

Using art materials can be intrinsically therapeutic. Smooshing some clay or dropping inks... Looking at all the colours... Endless possibilities...
So what then is the difference between enjoying art to feel better and using art therapy?

Art as therapy

✅Do it alone or with others
✅Can be combined with mindful practice for added benefit
✅Any frequency - daily, weekly.. etc
✅Any medium - journalling, clay work.. etc
✅Art, expression and creativity are in lots of things we may enjoy that help our wellbeing - cooking, baking, walking, playing, dancing 💐💃🥐
✅Form of self care

✅Also known as Art Psychotherapy
✅Mental health treatment
✅Always facilitated by a HCPC licensed Art Psychotherapist (UK)
