I’ve always been a dog person 🐾 but living with a cat has been such an eye-opener. Cats are mysterious, intuitive beings with their own language, their own needs, their own rhythm. They’re not always easy to understand — but when you do tune in, you realise they’re communicating all the time.
In many ways, it feels a little like living with an autistic or ADHD person. There’s a unique inner logic, a way of being that doesn’t always fit into the “norms” around them. Cats have their bursts of wild energy, then collapse into deep rest. They know instinctively when to retreat, when to connect, and when to simply be.
What I’ve noticed is this: a calm, content cat doesn’t come from control. It comes from being recognised, understood, and allowed to thrive in their own way. And isn’t that the same for people? Especially for those of us who are wired differently. A healthy, supported, truly seen neurodivergent person is one who can flourish in their natural rhythm.
Living with a cat has reminded me of the beauty of difference, of independence, of trust given freely rather than demanded. There’s something deeply spiritual in that, a reminder of the flow I see in my Reiki practice and the heart of my mentoring: we grow best when we are understood, accepted, and allowed to be fully ourselves. ✨🐈
