At Robert Frith Optometrists, we use advanced technology to help take the best possible care of your eyes 👁️

Our Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scanner allows us to look beneath the surface of the eye, capturing incredibly detailed images of the retina. This helps us detect early signs of eye conditions such as Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration and Diabetic Retinopathy — often before any symptoms appear.

Early detection is key when it comes to protecting your vision, which is why technology like OCT can be such an important part of a thorough eye examination.

We were so pleased to receive this lovely note along with a copy of the local newspaper highlighting the incredible work being done to recycle unwanted glasses for people who really need them around the world.

At Robert Frith Optometrists, we’re proud to be a collection point for old and unused spectacles. Donated glasses are sorted, graded and sent to communities where access to eye care is limited – giving someone the life-changing gift of clearer vision.

If you have any old pairs of glasses at home, feel free to drop them into the practice and we’ll make sure they’re passed on to help someone in need.

A small donation can make a huge difference. 🌍👓

We’re incredibly proud of our optometrist Simon, who has recently travelled to Kenya as part of a truly special initiative 💚

Through the amazing work of the Akamba Aid Fund, recycled glasses are collected — including those from our Chard and Yeovil practices — carefully checked for the correct prescriptions, and prepared before making the journey overseas. Once there, they are sorted and matched to those in need, giving many people the chance to see clearly again.

In this video, we follow the journey of one particular pair — from being donated locally in our Yeovil branch, to being carefully processed, packed, and finally finding a new home with someone who truly needs them. It’s a small glimpse into a much bigger picture. The lovely lady that received the pair, had previously been unable to read her Bible — but with her new glasses, she can now do so again. A simple pair of glasses can make such a life-changing difference.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated — your old glasses are helping to change lives in ways you might never imagine 🌍👓

Did you know an Optomap retinal scan can see up to 82% of the retina in one image? 👁️✨

Unlike traditional methods that only show a small section of the back of the eye, an Optomap provides a wide, detailed view of your retina, helping us detect early signs of eye conditions such as retinal tears, detachments, glaucoma and macular degeneration — often before you notice any symptoms.

The scan is:
✔️ Quick and non-invasive
✔️ Stored digitally so we can monitor changes to your eye health over time

Early detection is key when it comes to protecting your vision, and this technology allows us to keep a closer eye on your eye health than ever before.
