👣 Another example of how essential proper toenail and foot care truly is.

First photo – March 2025: Onycholysis was present, along with nail thickening, discolouration, and involuted toenails.

Second photo – October 2025: Onycholysis and discolouration had fully resolved, with significant improvement in nail thickness. Together with my patient, we decided to apply NiTi (nickel–titanium) nail braces to retrain the nail bed, encouraging the toenail to grow straight rather than curling inward.

A great example of what consistent care, appropriate interventions, and patient compliance can achieve.

I took over management of this fungal nail case in March last year, and the healing progress has been excellent. The patient continues to wear safety footwear at work. Following my recommendation, their boots were replaced with a new, lightweight pair that provides improved padding and, importantly, reduces nail trauma. This change has clearly supported the healthy regrowth we are seeing.

• Encourages healthy nail growth and prevents breakage or brittleness.
• Suitable for those with diabetes, arthritis, or poor circulation, who require extra care.
• Uses gentle, non-invasive methods that are safe for sensitive feet.
• Can be part of a regular foot care routine to prevent complications.
• Uses sterilised tools and medical-grade protocols to prevent infections.
• Focuses on foot health first, rather than just aesthetics.
• Can be done by a qualified professional (like a qualified Foot Health Practitioner).
• Softens dry, rough, or cracked skin, making walking more comfortable.
• Nails are trimmed and shaped correctly to avoid damage or infection.
• Feet look and feel refreshed, smooth, and well-maintained.
• Educates clients on proper at-home foot care.
• Helps prevent future foot problems through regular maintenance.
• Encourages clients to seek podiatric care when necessary.

An advanced foot health pedicure is perfect for clients who need more than just a beauty treatment—it provides therapeutic benefits while ensuring their feet stay healthy, comfortable, and well-cared for.

Verruca (HPV virus)
A verruca is caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). It enters the skin through tiny breaks, commonly on the soles of the feet, and can cause thickened, painful lesions that may spread if not managed correctly.

Treating verrucae is always a challenge when the patient is under 18. However, I’ve been consistently and pleasantly surprised to find that they are often my best teammates.

I always speak to them as I would to an adult—explaining each step of the treatment, what comes next, and guiding them through the process. I tell them about the tools I use, their names, what materials they’re made from, and why they’re needed. This helps remove fear and builds trust.

I give clear, short, and strict home-care advice, while making it very clear that they are my teammates—not mum, not dad. They are the ones doing the work.

Sometimes we also talk about their daily routine at home and find ways to integrate the treatment naturally, without making it feel like a chore or causing unnecessary disruption. This approach improves compliance and confidence—and ultimately, results.

When I say to patients “I don’t just cut toenails”, this is exactly what I mean.

A medical pedicure is essential at any age to maintain foot health and, most importantly, to keep you mobile. We often take our feet for granted—until problems begin to limit our ability to walk comfortably.

Patient: mid-70s
Treatment frequency: every 6 weeks, without fail.

First photo – March 2025 (first-ever session):
Discoloured toenails, hard skin in and around the nail folds, onycholysis, and a subungual callus.

Second photo – January 2026 (before treatment):
Significant improvement in nail colour, skin around the folds is now only dry with no excess hard skin, the subungual callus is almost fully resolved, and there is no onycholysis present.

Third photo – after treatment:
Toenails cut and filed, nail folds thoroughly cleaned, dry skin gently removed, and the nails and feet hydrated.

With consistent treatment every six weeks, the results speak for themselves—healthy toenail growth is now clearly visible.

Unfortunately our son developed a very sore foot and kept saying it hurt, so we booked him in to see Mari at Podo+. He was really nervous at first, but Mari spoke to him like an adult, joked with him and quickly put him at ease. Before we knew it, he was happily hopping onto her special chair that goes up and down, which fascinated us just as much as it did an eleven year old 😊

Mari was brilliant from start to finish. She quickly diagnosed the problem and got him sorted painlessly and efficiently. She is clearly very experienced and has dealt with everything from verrucas to bunions, with plenty of photos on hand to explain treatments clearly. Her location is easy to get to, right next to Chard Tip so parking is never an issue, and we believe she also offers house calls. She is a genuinely lovely lady who goes above and beyond to make sure you feel comfortable and looked after.

Highly recommended. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Fungal toenail infections can be very challenging and often take up to two years to fully resolve. During this time, changes to the nail can sometimes lead to additional issues, such as ingrown toenails. This may happen when debris builds up under the nail and the nail fold rises, leaving little space for the nail to grow comfortably.

In this case, that situation did occur. To help guide the nail back into a healthier shape and support proper growth, I applied a nail correction system, which was provided complimentary as part of the patient’s treatment plan.

First photo: March 2025 – Toenails were cut very short, leading to sensitivity and bleeding

This progress reflects the importance of gentle, correct nail care, regular professional support, and patience throughout the healing process. Both the patient and I are very happy with the improvement and will continue treatment moving forward.

A fantastic improvement, with treatment still ongoing.

This case presented with fungal toenails, onycholysis (lifting of the nail plate from the nail bed), early-stage ram’s horn toenail characterized by excessive vertical growth forming a peak, discoloration, and inflamed cuticles.

The patient attended regular in-clinic visits every six weeks without fail, receiving professional treatment at each appointment, along with clear home-care instructions to support ongoing improvement between visits.

They say everyone will envy your success, but no one will envy the work you put in to get there.

I made a promise and couldn’t keep the exact date. I’m a bit late — God made sure I rested. Last year and the beginning of this year were absolutely manic, but gosh… they were fantastic. Sweat, tears, and believe it or not, blood (cutting myself with all the new kitchen knives 😂).

Many people ask how, why, and what made me choose this job. I started as a care worker in 2017, always wishing I could do more for my patients. Alongside that, I worked as a nail technician and continued my training with Pedicure and Advanced Pedicure (Kart Peeling). Then I discovered Foot Health Practice — and everything changed.

Working full time while studying for a year, followed by clinical practice in Bournemouth, wasn’t easy. Those long days created a friendship for life and introduced us to an incredible mentor whose passion and standards pushed us beyond our limits. It was intense… and fantastic.

After certification, I started working from home, then in July I took a big step and moved into Chard Enterprise Centre, Office 5. After months of thinking, I know I made the right choice. The community here is beautiful.

The end of the year brought challenges — illness, rest, and patience. January felt endless, with new beginnings for some patients and closing treatments for others.

Please enjoy the results from last year, and thank you to all my patients for your trust, support, teamwork, and dedication to your home treatment care. A special thank you to the little ones who have been absolutely amazing and so mature — such an example to many adults.

So here I am, keeping my promise from last year. A little behind… but still standing.😊

Can’t tell you what’s next but keep your eyes on PODO+, a Fabulous year has started 🤩
