The residents had a lovely treat this week on Tuesday to celebrate World Spa Day 😊 They enjoyed neck and shoulder massages, manicures, and lovely pedicures, a full spa-style session to help everyone relax and feel pampered. 💅🧖‍♀️✨

Wednesday morning we talked about the dreaded world of work!

We looked into some jobs of the past like a leech collector, a human calculator and a switch board operator! Although we all agreed a leech collector sounded like the worst job going!

We also got to hear about some of the jobs each other worked like Tony's time as a milkman, Enas time working in a nursery (gardening) and Sues time working as a book binder!

Ofcourse then we spoke about our dream jobs if we could do anything work we wanted!

This Tuesday we had a lovely time celebrating Pancake Day at lunchtime 🥞😊 Residents chose their favourite toppings, including strawberries, blueberries, different sauces, whipped cream, and the classic sugar and lemon 🍓🫐🍯🍦🍋

Chinese New Year 🐉

To celebrate the beginning of Chinese New Year, we made some lovely decorations this week 🏮✨ Every decoration put up around the home was handmade by our residents, and we watched the parades on TV in each lounge so everyone could experience it together 🎥😊 We also chatted about traditions and how it’s the Year of the Horse 🐴🐎

Alongside this, we each blindly picked a fortune from a box 🥠☺️ It really lifted spirits, with messages like “You are braver than you believe” and “Never give up and you will never fail” — the surprise made everyone smile 😄💛

⚘️ Making Flower Arrangements 🌿

We had the wonderful opportunity to make our own flower arrangements to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year, thanks to a lovely family who kindly donated a beautiful bunch of flowers for our residents to use 👨‍👩‍👦💖

We began by creating centrepieces for the tables at lunchtime, but then one resident suggested a lovely idea, making smaller bouquets to give to each resident 💐😊 A few residents made the bouquets while others helped tie them together, it was a really heart-warming display of kindness, teamwork, and care 💕✨

This weekend we enjoyed some wonderful strawberries and decided to make them extra special by dipping them in dark chocolate 🍓🍫 Some of the residents were amazed at how big the strawberries were, and a few commented on how lovely the chocolate smelled once it had melted 😊

After making our chocolate-dipped treats, everyone got a cheeky little taste test with some leftover strawberries too 😄🍓 There were plenty of laughs and smiles, and one resident summed it up perfectly, “There’s nothing quite like chocolate for Valentine’s!” 💝

With Valentines just around the corner we've been reminiscing about our loved ones, marriages and even proposals!

This got us thinking about what advice we would give to others or even our younger selves when it comes to friendships and marriage!

A big thank you to our lovely visitor Jenny for all that she does to bring joy to the residents of Victory Care Home each month! 🎤🎶
