Building structure and routines ⏰
Next week I head off to the island of Malta 🇲🇹 to take on the
This brings the end of a shortened training block from my last big event back in December. Blocks bring an element of structure and routine to training - which is something I use in other parts of my life.
Other things I use routine and structure for is journalling the end of the day, keeping track of my day to day diary and making sure I put key events in there, my weekly parkrun (of course!) but still making time for some self care.
As a therapist, one of the most common things I see is how much our nervous systems crave predictability. When life feels chaotic, uncertain, or overwhelming, having small anchors in the day can make a big difference.
Structure helps:
• Reduce anxiety by increasing a sense of control
• Support emotional regulation
• Improve sleep and energy
• Build trust with yourself
• Create space for healing and growth
Routine doesn’t have to mean scheduling every minute. It can be as simple as:
– Waking up around the same time
– A morning coffee ritual
– A 10-minute wind-down at night
– Setting aside time to move your body
– Planning your week every Sunday
These small, consistent actions send your brain a powerful message: I am safe. I am supported. I can handle this.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed lately, instead of trying to “fix everything,” start by adding one small, repeatable habit to your day.
Healing often begins with rhythm. 🤍
