“Lets get Control and Change.”

About Me:
After many years of struggling with my own weight, nutrition and related symptoms, I began a journey that led me to lose three stone as well as the related health issues. I had so much more energy and had discovered a lot about nutrition. Friends and family started to ask how I had done it and could I help them? I then decided to train and qualify as a Nutritional Therapist. A few months after this, I was faced with a particularly stressful period at work and home. I was introduced to the Control System and attended a Control workshop. Coming away after one day, totally relaxed and in control, I made a decision. I went on to study and qualify as a Control Practitioner and Remedial Hypnotist! During and shortly after this time, I had began to change peoples lives and help them feel in control, balanced and happy again. Taking away stress, fear of heights, anxiety, stopping people from smoking, losing weight and many more. Finally a great opportunity arose. My holistic approach to client care and local knowledge was partnered with an offer to work with, and at, the Lordswood Osteopathic Clinic. Control and Change was born. The clinic is conveniently located at the Lordswood Leisure Centre in Chatham, in the heart of the medway towns and close to the M2 junction 3. Easy links from Gillingham, Sittingbourne, Gravesend and Canterbury and a short hop from Junction 6 of the M20 and Blue Bell Hill from Maidstone, Ashford and surrounding areas. The centre is situated in a quiet country setting overlooking 20 acres of playing fields, with free parking for over 100 cars and disabled access. Regular local buses (166, 167 & 701) stop around half a mile from the Centre.

Did today feel like ‘Blue Monday’ or ‘Brew Monday’ for you? ☕

Today is known as “Blue Monday”, the so-called most depressing day of the year, but it doesn’t have scientific grounding, and experts caution it can actually trivialise how complex our mental health really is.

That’s why organisations like Samaritans have championed “Brew Monday” instead, a reminder that connection, conversation, and human contact matter more than any calendar label.

For Chris:
“Today I woke up absolutely fine, got ready, and drove to work really calmly, and I really enjoyed my first day back.
Best Monday I’ve had in YEARS!” 💪

That’s a beautiful example of what connection and steady leadership of the mind can feel like, even on a day that gets a negative label.

Please comment “Blue” or “Brew” for your Monday.

Does your anxiety convince you you’re unsafe, even when you know you are?

That is one of the most frustrating parts of anxiety. Logically, you know you’re okay. You can see the evidence. Nothing bad is happening, but your body doesn’t agree.

Your heart pounds.
Your thoughts race.
Your system prepares for danger that isn’t actually there.

Your conscious mind understands the situation.
Your subconscious is working from old information, past experiences, or learned threat patterns, and it reacts first, asks questions later.

That’s why anxiety can feel so convincing.
It’s also why moments like this matter:
“I had such a great day in London yesterday, absolutely zero anxiety. Got the bus, the train, the tube, went to a museum, went to a restaurant… loads of stuff. I was enjoying myself the whole time. My friends said I was like a different person.”

Nothing magical happened that day.
The world didn’t suddenly become safer.
What changed was the subconscious standing down, just enough, and letting the conscious lead.

If your anxiety tells you you’re unsafe when you’re not, you’re not broken, you’re experiencing a nervous system doing its job a little too well.

Understanding that is often the first step toward change.

If this feels familiar, you’re not alone and not stuck with it.

If you struggle with anxiety, stress, overwhelm, overthinking…..
your sleep probably isn’t great either.
this just may explain it clearly.

In my work, I use the Captain & Crew model to explain how the mind works.
Imagine your mind like a big ship:
The Captain (conscious mind) handles logic, planning and direction.
The Crew (subconscious) handles emotion, habits and threat detection.

If the crew are behaving, doing all of their jobs, it’s plain sailing.
If some are getting anxious, scared, or out the back for a crafty smoke, the ship may rock.

Will the ship make it or get stuck in a safe harbour?

Have a look at the new free app to find out more and try some ways to calm the crew, rest the captain and ensure you reach the destination. 🚢 skool.com/helm-horizon-8749 ⚓️

World Hypnotism Day, what real hypnosis actually is (and isn’t).

This day exists to clear up misconceptions and show what hypnosis, and specifically therapeutic hypnosis, can genuinely offer. Helping those with anxiety, insomnia and fears….or dancing like a chicken?

If you think of hypnosis and immediately picture swinging pocket watches or stage shows, that’s the myth talking. It’s a story that’s been told for entertainment, not understanding.

In my work, I often talk about the Captain & Crew:
- The Captain (conscious mind): logic, choice, goals
- The Crew (subconscious): habits, emotions, protective patterns
Hypnosis doesn’t take over the ship.
It changes the Crew’s approach so the Captain can steer with greater calm, clarity and control.

In hypnotherapy, the mind enters a state of focused attention and deep relaxation, think less “lost control” and more “aware, with reduced noise.” It’s a state where the Crew becomes more receptive to helpful patterns rather than over-protective ones.

That’s why it’s not surprising that people often report:
- reduced anxiety.
- improved sleep.
- better focus.
- more ease with habits and behaviours.
…and not because the Captain hands over the wheel, but because the Crew feels safe enough not to grip it so tightly.

Hypnosis isn’t about stage theatrics. It’s about shifting how we relate to experience, not a takeover of our agency.

If you’re curious about how your mind actually works, how the Crew responds, how anxiety cycles keep repeating, and how to influence that cycle, then structured, psychologically grounded tools make all the difference.

Inside my Skool platform, we focus on:
education about how the mind self-regulates.
practical, in-the-moment tools.
understanding rather than mystique.
structured learning you can access anytime.

No stage.
No myths.
Just grounded insight and support.

If this resonates, consider exploring The Harbour, the free tier, to learn more about your mind and how change really happens.

If you struggle with anxiety, stress, overwhelm or overthinking, sleep isn’t a nice-to-have. It’s one of the most important foundations for emotional balance.

Today is Festival of Sleep Day, a gentle reminder, just after the festive rush, that rest matters.
Not productivity.
Not pushing through.
Not “I’ll catch up later”.
Sleep.

In my work, I use the Captain & Crew model to explain how the mind works.
- The Captain (conscious mind) handles logic, planning and direction.
- The Crew (subconscious) handles emotion, habits and threat detection.
When sleep is poor, the Captain is tired, and the Crew becomes overprotective.

That’s when people notice:
- Racing thoughts at night.
- Heightened anxiety.
- Irritability.
- Low resilience to stress.
Not because anything is “wrong”, but because the nervous system is running on empty.

Sleep is when the Crew resets and the Captain regains steady leadership.

A calm place to start:
If sleep is difficult for you, forcing it rarely helps.
Understanding your mind does.
Inside my Skool platform, you’ll find practical tools you can use in the moment, simple sleep-support techniques, and education that helps calm anxiety rather than fight it.

No pressure.
No “fix yourself” messaging.
Just structure, understanding, and support.

If this resonates, you’re welcome to start in The Harbour, the free tier, and explore from there.

Sometimes the most productive thing you can do… is get some rest.

Most people don’t need a new version of themselves in January.
They’re already exhausted trying to hold everything together.

What they really want is:
To feel calmer.
To sleep better.
To stop overthinking.
To walk into meetings, interviews, exams, or social situations without that knot in their stomach.

Not just for January, but for life.

Instead of “New Year, New You”, what if it was New Year, New Tools?

Tools you can actually use:
On the commute.
At work.
At home.
Before a meeting or interview.
Before a driving test or exam.
When anxiety, fear, panic or self-doubt suddenly kick in.

That’s exactly why I’ve created a free hypnotherapy & mind-coaching app, something you carry with you into the New Year, rather than another promise you abandon by week three.

Inside, you’ll find:
Practical techniques.
Short, effective mindset tools.
Support for anxiety, fear, phobias, insomnia and confidence.
A supportive community, so you’re not doing this on your own.

No resolutions. No pressure. No pretending everything’s fine.

Just something that works… and grows with you. You can stay free, or upgrade later if you want more support, entirely your choice.

If 2025 needs to feel different, not just renamed, this might be worth a look.

👉 Download the app and take calm, confidence and control with you into the New Year.

Waking up in the night for no obvious reason?
Here’s something many people don’t realise…

Being dehydrated can cause night-time waking….I know it used to happen to me.
Dry mouth. Light sleep. Mind kicking in far too early.

Now add this important link:
Poor or interrupted sleep has been shown to increase anxiety.

So what starts as a simple physical issue can quickly turn into racing thoughts, tension, and that familiar “why can’t I switch off?” feeling.

The mind loves to blame itself.
But sometimes the body started the conversation.

This is why I always look at sleep and anxiety together, not as separate problems, but as part of the same loop.
When sleep improves, anxiety often lowers.
When anxiety reduces, sleep gets deeper.

Small changes matter.
Hydration.
Timing.
Sleeping.
Knowing how to calm the mind when it wakes, rather than fighting it.

If night-time waking, poor sleep, or anxiety are creeping in for you, check out the comment below.
I can help you break the cycle and get your nights, and days, back on track.

Feeling anxious about the parties coming up?
The conversations… the confidence… the feeling of being “good enough”?

You’re not broken, you’re just comparing your behind-the-scenes to everyone else’s highlight reel.

Social media shows us people at their best.
Filtered. Smiling. Winning.
And then we judge ourselves while standing in the bathroom mirror first thing in the morning, wondering what on earth fell out of bed.

Here’s what most people forget:
You see all of your outtakes.
Your doubts. Your effort. Your mistakes.
You only ever see other people’s highlights.

That comparison will always feel unfair.

The person you’re putting on a pedestal has their own worries, insecurities and off-days, you just don’t see them.
They might even be looking at you thinking,
“How do they make it look so easy?”

As the social season ramps up, remember this:
Confidence drops when you compare perspectives that were never equal in the first place.

So go gently.
Show up as you are.
And remind yourself, everyone else has outtakes too.

Save this for when the doubt kicks in, and message me if you want help quietening it.

If social anxiety, self-doubt or fear of judgement is creeping in right now, drop me a message.
You don’t have to navigate this season alone.

If nothing changed this week… would you be happy repeating it for the rest of the year?

Stress. Anxiety. Broken sleep. The constant “I’ll sort it in January.”
It all builds up, doesn’t it?

Here’s what most people avoid:
January doesn’t magically fix anything.
But you can, long before then.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, burnt-out or on autopilot… this is your sign to stop waiting. Your future self will thank you for the decision you make today, not the one you keep postponing.

Drop me a message if you’d like simple, practical help you can use right away, at home, at work, or on the move. Or save this post and come back when you’re ready.

Just remember…Change doesn’t start in January.
It starts the moment you decide you’re done feeling this way.

Feeling anxious because you’re not well?
It happens to so many people, that sudden guilt about letting work down, not being able to help with the kids, or worrying you might pass something on to an elderly relative.

But here’s the thing…being unwell isn’t a failure. It’s not you being unreliable. It’s simply your body asking for what it needs.

You don’t have a crystal ball. You can’t see the future. And you can’t control every single thing around you, only your responses.

Resting when you’re sick isn’t selfish. It’s responsible. It protects you and the people you care about.

So today, try telling yourself: “Healing is progress. Resting is sensible. I’m doing the best I can.”

Because when the guilt softens, the anxiety eases… doesn’t it?

If you need some practical ways to stay calm while you recover, drop me a message.
