Hey friends! Today, I want to touch on a very important topic that often gets overlooked: childhood trauma and its effects on our mental and physical health.

Childhood is a crucial time for brain development. Experiences during these formative years, especially traumatic ones, can profoundly shape how our brain and nervous system function throughout life. Trauma can come in many forms—abuse, neglect, loss, or even witnessing violence.

When a child experiences trauma, their brain may become wired to be in a constant state of alertness, leading to heightened stress responses. This heightened state can cause changes in important areas of the brain, affecting memory, emotional regulation, and decision-making. As a result, many individuals may struggle with anxiety, depression, and difficulty forming healthy relationships later in life.

Moreover, the nervous system of a child who has faced trauma may respond differently to stress. They might experience a perpetual fight-or-flight response or, conversely, develop a tendency to freeze, which can manifest as feelings of dissociation or numbness.

💙 Let’s Talk About Panic Attacks 💙
If you’ve ever felt your heart race, your chest tighten, and your thoughts spiral — you’re not alone. Panic attacks can feel terrifying, but there are ways to regain control when they happen.
Here are a few methods that can help calm your body and mind:
🫁 1. Breathe Slowly and Deeply
Try the 4-7-8 breathing method: Inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 7, and exhale slowly for 8. Repeat until your body begins to relax.
👣 2. Ground Yourself in the Present
Look around and name:
• 5 things you can see
• 4 things you can touch
• 3 things you can hear
• 2 things you can smell
• 1 thing you can taste
This brings your mind back to now.
🤍 3. Relax Your Body
Tense and release one muscle group at a time — starting from your toes and moving upward. It helps your body realize it’s safe.
💭 4. Remind Yourself: “This Will Pass.”
Panic attacks always peak and fade. You’ve survived them before, and you’ll get through this one too.
🌿 5. Practice Regular Self-Care
Adequate sleep, hydration, and reducing caffeine can lower the chances of future attacks.

Counselling heals emotional wounds!

Healing from trauma takes courage. Courage to allow yourself to be sad and at times vulnerable, with someone you barely know.

you’ve always carried it so well, you believe nobody else sees it. But it can show itself in a really ugly ways. Ways that leave others traumatised and you feeling guilty and shameful.

survival behaviours are sometimes abusive and destructive. Perfected to avoid being challenged. They have been the closet you hide in for so long. It might be scary to talk about.

It most definitely will be, it is likely to be the most difficult conversation of your life. But it’s also the most freeing.

Processing trauma and letting go of the hurt caused by your childhood or previous relationships leads to a deep feeling of relief.

Understanding where our behaviours come from lead to growth of emotional intelligence and enhanced forgiveness of your own and others defensive, survival behaviours.

It’s never too late to face yourself in the mirror and it’s never too late to sort your life out. We are designed to develop and heal.

We are also designed to thrive in the company and learning of others. So no surprise that counselling offers the other that’s been missing.

Someone who is willing to hear you and walk with you no matter how battle scared you are. Counsellors are trained to help you come to terms with your lot. We know life is hard at times and we know your story is unique to you.

But we walked the difficult path of taking personal responsibility for healing ourselves, so that we can walk with you whilst you go on that journey of person development and healing.

Don’t leave it, it’s worth every tear. Stepping out of the closet and facing my fears is by far the greatest gift I ever gave myself.

My books here 😃 Unbreakable by Vonda Wright! an orthopaedic surgeon and longevity expert.

After seeing her speak in Camden with Kate Muir’, and Dr. Louise Newson, menopause expert. I’ve learnt that aging is reversible and can be managed; i must work hard to stay fit, flexible, healthy and Strong.

I’m inspired to up my game and will be following her advice on mindset, diet and exercise for the foreseeable future. I’ll keep you updated on my progress.

🌬️ Feeling Anxious or Stressed? Try This Breathing Technique! 🌬️

Life can be overwhelming at times, but there's a simple breathing exercise that can help calm your nerves and bring peace to your mind.

It's called the "4-7-8 Breathing Technique," and it's perfect for managing anxiety and panic attacks.

Here's how it works:

Sit or lie down comfortably, and if it helps, close your eyes.

Place the tip of your tongue against the ridge of your gums, just behind your upper front teeth, and keep it there.

Exhale completely through your mouth, making a whooshing sound.

Inhale quietly through your nose while counting to four.

Hold your breath for a count of seven.

Exhale completely through your mouth, making the whooshing sound to a count of eight.

Repeat this for a total of four breath cycles.

This technique slows down your heart rate and increases oxygen flow to your brain, helping you find calm in moments of stress.

Give it a try and let peace flow within!
