This is not a moany post, this is an open, honest and very vulnerable post from me.
I have lots and lots of lovely, loyal customers who book their dogs in on a regular 6/8/10week schedule all year round, you are my bread and butter and I am truly grateful for your custom, your dogs are a joy to have in as they are used to seeing me and know the routine, even the ones who are a little bit tricky I still adore them 🥰
At this time of year I get bombarded with ad-hoc clients who I may only see once or twice a year, every morning at the moment I am waking up to messages telling me your dog is desperate/urgent/in a right state/stinking/matted. I have squeezed in as many as I can but I honestly can’t fit any more in as my diary is at its fullest and I am only one person.
Here comes the vulnerable bit (I haven’t told many people this)….last year I really struggled with burnout, stress and anxiety, something that I’d never had before. It got so bad I got some professional help for it. I was very close to quitting dog grooming and doing something completely different! One of the things we discussed in my sessions was setting boundaries and learning to say no, so here I am setting my boundaries as I can feel those awful emotions creeping back in as I feel so pressured to fit everyone in.
So I am going to be saying no to ad-hoc bookings for a while and protecting my regular customers and more importantly protecting my sanity. I want to be on top form for the dogs I really enjoy seeing and be doing my best work.
I’m sure anyone who is self employed and running a small business can relate to this.
Have a wonderful Friday everyone, apologies to the people I can’t fit in but I hope you understand.
