Hazzleton Consultancy - Occupational Therapy Services Private Consultant O.T for 30 years treating adults to maximise their independence & quality of life

I've had some very varied cases recently from complex Occupational Health assessments involving cognitive testing and assessment of an employees transfers from a wheelchair to the work toilet.

Vocational reports for Solicitors and seating assessments for very elderly care home residents. Tomorrow is a 90 year old lady needing advice about equipment to keep her safe and independent at home.

The range of tasks we do as O.T's is vast.
I pride myself on being professional and approachable to all my clients.

It was nice to be invited back to a specific Nursing home today. Such good Nursing and care staff and they take excellent care of their residents which is a pleasure to witness.

Had a really grateful client this week who was supported with post natal depression. Four sessions of support, signposting and prescribed activities she's so well she's been discharged.

Her employer was concerned about her mood and she consented to my involvement.

Having a good day volunteering at Festival of the Brilliant ( a children's literary festival) with Outside Arts an OT I'm impressed with their accessibility and inclusiveness. They asked for feedback on access pre festival to ensure all visitors needs are met.

I also met another OT working privately who also volunteering. We discussed change of practices regarding access over the last 20 years.

As an O.T I work to help you overcome the effects of ageing, disability or illness to achieve the tasks that are important to you in your life.

This may be looking after yourself or others in terms of washing, dressing, self care, transfers, mobility, managing your pain/symptoms or mood.

Also finding or retaining suitable work ( paid or voluntary). You may have difficulties managing your home, budgeting, shopping, cooking or taking part in valued activities.

Treatment may include advice on how to manage tasks differently, using adaptive equipment or making helpful changes to the environment.

I have been qualified since 1994 please get in touch if I can be of any assistance to you for a friendly no obligation discussion.

I very much enjoyed a trip to the Houses of Parliament with other staff also working in Occupational Health on Friday. It was organised by the Society of Occupational Medicine We met with the Health and Wellbeing team from the Houses of Parliament and they told us about their newly formed team.
It comprises of a Psychiatrist, Medic, Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner, Occupational Health Nurses and Nurse Managers. There is a Manager providing workplace adjustments but there is no OT currently.

I asked the question being an OT in Occupational Health privately for the last 15 years.I provide Occupational Health to private businesses or individual's with health issues having work issues.

My intervention assesses the individual's health needs and how these impact on their job role. I advise on reasonable adjustments for the employee to enable them to return to work safely and at an appropriate pace. Workplace adjustments can include specific equipment prescribed to meet the individual's needs.

Occasionally the job role is no longer suitable for the employee. Advice is given about the employee's skills and roles that are more suitable.Occupational Health helps prevent injuries, improve wellbeing and minimise the time employees are off sick. I can provide an excellent reference from a company I have worked with (and continue to do so) for the last ten years.

We concluded with a tour which was very informative. I ended the day socialising with four inspirational Occupational Health Nurses/ Managers. Two are local to me in the Cheshire/ Staffordshire area.

My business website will be launched shortly.

Has your life been turned upside down by illness or disability?

Let me help you regain your ability to do valued tasks in your life in a different way.

OT's help people with all activities of daily living including washing, dressing, meal preparation, shopping, budgeting, leisure and work activities whether that be paid or unpaid.

The goal is always to give you your best quality of life and help with your valued actities which are individual to each client. We also focus on carers's needs and the needs of other relevant people in your life.

I provide specialist advice, equipment or adaptations to your environment whether that be at work or at home or another valued location.

Personally I have found a way to live with a rare neurological condition Complex Regional Pain Syndrome in order to be able to work more part time as an OT.

I used to rely on an electric wheelchair but my mobility has now improved.

I learnt what it is like to be physically disabled and to need practical help, support and assistance from Social Care carers.

This has made me a better Occupational Therapist and more aware of people's needs and the frustrations of having your independence taken away from you.

During this time I have maintained private OT work for a large employer assisting in providing return to work advice and adaptations for employees. I have provided OT assessments for another company advising on home adaptations and equipment for clients to aid safety and independence.

I have also worked with the two UK charities for Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) running a carers group and befriending complex clients due to my Head OT career in Mental Health in the NHS.

I believe I am the only O.T in the UK specialising in CRPS with significant lived experience of this complex condition. I have expertise in navigating NHS treatments and treatment abroad.

I regularly update my knowledge and speak to CRPS experts, professional's, academics, carer's and patient's across the globe. I have also taken part in global research many times to increase knowledge and treatments for CRPS.

I am now able to do more and am enjoying taking on more clients.

I remain as passionate about the value of O.T as when I started in 1994.

OT can help prevent falls, admissions, carer strain and excess care costs by keeping people at home as long as possible. If someone does need practical/ physical care the right equipment can often reduce the amount of care hours needed which can lead to savings long term.

Contact me for a friendly no obligation discussion during my core hours.

If I am unable to answer my phone due to being with a client please do leave a message and I will always return your call as soon as I can.

I am able to travel across the UK and can be flexible with appointment times.

Thank you

Sarah
