Springfield Hospital

Springfield Hospital Springfield Hospital provides an excellent facility, with experienced, highly skilled staff. We are a “Gold National Joint Registry” Data provider site.
(343)

We are a 64 bedded unit consisting of fifty eight private bedrooms and a high observation unit. Each private bedroom has its own en-suite facilities and a television with remote control. We provide meals via room service and can arrange catering for your relatives and friends upon request. Our consultants are subject to strict vetting procedures to ensure only those with the appropriate experience and qualifications are granted Practising Privileges. Springfield Hospital's parent company is Ramsay Health Care UK, an Australian company with a network of private hospitals and treatment centres across the country. Springfield Hospital is the largest Ramsay Hospital in the UK and is situated in a semi-rural location on the outskirts of Chelmsford, with attractive landscaped gardens and free parking. We are also accessible via train or bus service with Chelmsford train station being 10 minutes distance away by car and bus routes stopping directly outside of the hospital. Over the years Springfield Hospital has striven to provide a first class environment and service through a programme of continued development of our staff, the facilities and investment. As a result, we are able to provide an excellent facility, with experienced, highly skilled staff. The hospital also provides access to advanced medical technology to ensure a safe and a comfortable patient experience. The ‘NJR Quality Data Provider’ certificate scheme was introduced to offer hospitals a blueprint for reaching high quality standards relating to patient safety and to reward those who have met the registry’s high targets in the achievement of the quality of the data collected. We were awarded “JAG” accreditation in 2023. This accreditation verifies that the endoscopy service at Springfield are meeting rigorous, high quality standards which are used across the UK and Republic of Ireland to support improvement in clinical care and the patient experience. This means that patients can feel confident in their endoscopy service and be assured of receiving high quality consistent care. At the end of 2012 we ranked 1st on an external and independent Private Healthcare website earning us the title of "Patient Choice 2012".

✨ Outpatients Second Floor Refurbishment Complete! ✨

We are delighted to announce the completion and reopening of the newly refurbished Outpatients Department – Second Floor at Springfield Hospital.

This project has been carried out with great success, creating a brighter, more modern and welcoming environment for everyone who visits us. The updated space offers improved patient flow, enhanced privacy, upgraded consultation rooms and a more comfortable setting for both patients and staff — all designed to support an even better experience of care.

Last week, our Hospital Director, Nick Jackson, officially marked the reopening with a ribbon‑cutting ceremony, celebrating this important milestone for the hospital.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in bringing this project to life. It has truly been a whole‑hospital effort, and your hard work, collaboration and commitment are greatly appreciated.

We look forward to welcoming patients into the new space.

✨ A Major Milestone for Springfield Hospital! ✨

We are incredibly proud to announce that Springfield Hospital is the first hospital in England to use the brand‑new Alcon Unity Cataract System, marking an exciting step forward in the future of cataract surgery.

Our Ophthalmology team successfully completed the first patient treatment using this state‑of‑the‑art platform yesterday — a moment that reflects our commitment to investing in the very best technology for our patients.

The Alcon Unity Cataract System (CS) brings together several advanced innovations, including UNITY 4D Phaco, HYPERVIT 30K and the UNITY Intelligent Fluidics system. Together, these features:
• Enhance surgical efficiency
• Provide a more stable anterior chamber
• Offer more advanced phacoemulsification
• Allow surgery to be performed under more physiologic conditions

🌟 What does this mean for patients?
Shorter procedure times, greater stability during surgery and an even safer, smoother experience overall.

A word from Mr Petros Andreou, Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon:
“Thank you to Ramsay Health Care, Springfield Hospital Senior Leadership Team and Alcon for supporting our patients with the latest, most efficient and safest new technology for managing patients with cataract surgery.”

A huge well done to our Ophthalmology and Theatre teams for leading the way with this groundbreaking advancement.

👋✨ Meet the Team Mondays ✨👋

At Springfield Hospital, we believe that behind every great service is an even greater team.

That’s why each Monday, we shine a light on the incredible individuals who make Springfield Hospital a place of care, compassion, and excellence. From nurses and doctors to porters, admin staff, and everyone in between—these are the faces behind the care.

🩺 This week, we’re proud to introduce Helen Carter, our Senior Pelvic Health Physiotherapist here at Springfield Hospital.

Helen qualified from Salford University in 2003 and brings over 20 years of experience to our team. She spent 18 years at Basildon Hospital, followed by several years at Southend Hospital, before joining Springfield in May 2024 — now approaching her two‑year anniversary with us.

Helen’s day‑to‑day work covers a wide range of pelvic health concerns, including bowel and bladder issues, pelvic pain, management of fissures and haemorrhoids, and helping patients improve symptoms through both muscle relaxation and strengthening. Her passion for pelvic health began at university, where she chose women’s health as a specialist module and completed an elective placement with the women’s health physiotherapy team at Exeter Hospital.

Importantly, pelvic health is not just for women. Since joining Springfield, Helen has led the development of our new men’s pelvic health service, expanding support for even more patients across our community.

Helen has also been a part of launching our staff menopause café, offering a supportive space for colleagues to access information, share experiences and better understand how to support loved ones going through menopause.

We’re incredibly proud to have Helen as part of Team Springfield — her expertise, compassion and commitment to improving quality of life make a real difference every day.

Stay tuned every week as we share stories that connect us all 💙
