Happy Halloween from us at James Bryan Opticians!👻 Please keep reading if you are planning to wear Cosmetic Contact Lenses this weekend. For the sake of your eye health, it is vital that you are aware of the risk you take when you put those lenses into your eyes.
The scary truth is, it is illegal to sell contact lenses (even novelty lenses) in the UK without the supervision of a registered optometrist, dispensing optician or doctor.
This means that those cheap, 'dress-up' contact lenses are most likely not produced to the same standard as those sold by your opticians and likely do not meet the safety requirements. They have also not been properly fitted to your eyes, increasing the risk of infection, irritation and corneal abrasions.
Additionally, not following proper use and hygiene practices for contact lens wear given by your optometrist, will increase your risk of infections.
In the worst cases, infections and corneal damage can lead to vision loss. This is why we urge you to consult with your eyecare professionals first.
