So many people I see in clinic tell me that when they are in pain they have to stop and rest. And while a short period or relative rest may be helpful in the short term, the most important thing is attempting to find the balance between tissue tolerance and activity.

Prolonged rest can lead to deconditioning and worsening of symptoms when attempting to return to activity, increasing the likelihood of more rest, further deconditioning etc. Not only this, but prolonged avoidance of hobbies and activities can affect mood and mental health, which we know can turn the dial up on someone's pain experience.

Matt Ross Physiotherapy takes a detailed history to understand your wants and needs, provides a comprehensive assessment to identify your current tolerance and then formulate a plan to get you back to the things you enjoy.

To find out how I can help and to book an appointment, simply send me a DM, call 07814 717577 or book through the website www.mattrossphysiotherapy.co.uk

Your MRI doesn’t tell your story it only whispers a few lines.
Imaging shows structure, not strength.
It can’t measure resilience, adaptation, or how your body feels and functions.

Far too many surgeries are done because of what’s seen on a screen
tiny “abnormalities” that are often just normal signs of living.
Age-appropriate changes, not emergencies.

Before you rush to fix what may not be broken,
start with movement, education, and a real conversation.
You are not your MRI.
You are more than an image
you are function, healing, and potential in motion

Sound familiar?

Lots of people I see for various conditions are often told by friends, family and sometimes other health professionals that if they are in pain they need to rest / stop exercising etc. While a period of relative rest for a short period may be helpful in the acute phases, long periods of withdrawal from activity is often not helpful.

Not only can this lead to deconditioning and potential reoccurrence of symptoms sooner as activity starts again, it can also lead to stress and frustration which can turn the dial up on someone's pain experience.

Movement more than often aids in someones recovery, however it is attempt to find the right balance for what the affect tissues can tolerate and modify activity accordingly. Then, alongside a graded rehabilitation programme, attempting to improve tissue tolerance and function allowing you to get back to the things you enjoy most.

So if this sounds like you, perhaps you have tried treatment before and felt as though it hasn't helped, or you are after a second opinion, do contact me directly through facebook, by calling 07814 717577 or booking directly through the website www.mattrossphysiotherapy.co.uk

Pain is complex! It's designed by unpleasant for one reason - to draw your attention and make you take action. However while it can be unpleasant, and in some instances intense, it is very seldom a sign of anything more sinister, particularly in the absent of any traumatic onset. The longer pain continues, the less helpful and more disabling it can be for people.

Understanding what pain is and the multifactorial aspects of it can make a huge difference in someone's recovery. Knowing that pain seldom equals damage enables people to move more confidently, comfortable and therefore taking ownership of their symptoms, rather than letting their pain dictate what they can do.

At Matt Ross Physiotherapy, a comprehensive history and physical assessment are carried out to help identify the cause of your symptoms. A tailed rehabilitation programme is then provided and strategies are provided to help manage and overcome your pain.

So whether your pain is acute or chronic, whether you have tried treatment before which hasn't helped or would like a second opinion, feel free to reach out to me directly on 07814 717577, via the website www.mattrossphysiotherapy.co.uk or direct messaging through facebook.

It's no secret that Physiotherapy is a hands on profession that has helped countless people over the years. However, like most sciences, evidence and research has developed to provide us further knowledge about anatomy and musculoskeletal pain within the general and athletic population.

What we now know is that someones pain is often complex and multifactorial, and someones pain experienced is compounded by numerous things such as worry, anxiety, sleep, nutrition, exercise, overloading, unloading and perhaps several of these interwoven. So while hands on treatment can help, it's important to understand you as a whole.

Matt Ross Physiotherapy prides itself on a totally holistic approach. We go into depth about you, as a person, for you to fully understand your condition and work, together, to develop a plan to address all the factors that may be contributing towards your symptoms.

So whether your symptoms are old or new, contact us now to see how I can help, either direct via 07814 717577, through the website or direct message.
