This is a start…

“From the 2024/25 academic year, mandatory teaching and assessment specifically relating to women’s health will be introduced for all medical students and new doctors.
The government is also planning to:

- Provide £10 million funding for breast cancer screening to pay for 25 mobile units in areas with low testing rates
-Update guidance around the treatment of severe endometriosis, a debilitating condition which affects 1 in 10 women where tissue similar to the lining of the womb starts to grow in other places, such as the ovaries and Fallopian tubes
- Introduce a pregnancy loss certificate in England, providing legal recognition when a baby dies within the first 24 weeks of pregnancy
- Encourage the expansion of dedicated women’s health hubs so maternity, gynaecology and sexual health services can be accessed in a single place.

Miriam Levin, health and care programme director at Engage Britain, welcomed the steps but said that the government had to ensure that women’s concerns would be properly listened to.”

Who watched last week’s ‘Your Body Uncovered’, focusing on endometriosis?

It was an illuminating and fascinating look at an often debilitating condition that is still under-diagnosed. There continues to be so much we don’t understand about it, although research is ongoing, and it can still be difficult to diagnose as symptoms can vary so much.

But painful periods are NOT normal, neither is widespread pain and fatigue, and do warrant further investigation and support. This was definitely worth a watch.

A young woman with endometriosis comes face-to-face with the source of her pain.

Whatever this year brings we'll deal with. It will be amazing and difficult and everything in between. But whatever happens, we've got this and we've got more support than we might know.

Donna Ashworth Words always finds the right words xx

This year won’t be ‘yours’.
This year won’t be ‘mine’ either.
This year won’t be outstanding, nor will it be awful.
This year won’t be the worst or best year of your life.
Because time doesn’t work like that.

This year will be everything.

As with every year.
As with life.

This year will be 365 days of life.
You have had many of those already and you have more ahead.
We don’t know how many,
if we did we could play around more with our choices.
But in the meantime you have only one, to live.

To make the most of the days when you can,
and rest on the days when you can’t.

This year will be a year of life my friend
and as with all the years before you will grow.

That’s all we know.

So I wish you a year of growth.
Because after all is said and done,
that’s the real privilege here.

Donna Ashworth

A massive step forward and fantastic news that women will not have to wait until they’ve had their third miscarriage before being able to access the medical help and support they need.
And about time too. 👏

Labour’s Olivia Blake says move should mean women will start to receive support after their first miscarriage.
