We've been blown away by the talents of students at National Star who have used their creativity and artistic talents to remind people about the effects of climate change on them and the planet.

Student Laura chose to focus on changes in the weather. She said: 'This bad weather is caused by climate change. Climate change is caused by us. Floods and storms mean I lose some of the independence that I've worked so hard for, because someone has to go around with me. I'd rather go around by myself. This makes me feel angry and sad.'

According to Humanity and Inclusion UK people with disabilities are disproportionately affected by climate change. For this reason it is essential that we hear the voices and opinions of people with disabilities on this topic.

A temporary exhibition at National Star Ullenwood has been formed from the students' artwork. We'd love to see the artwork exhibited outside National Star so let us know if you have space to display it. The more people we can educate about climate change the better!

Are you in a management role within a specialist school or further education setting supporting young people with complex physical, medical, and learning disabilities?

If so, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re recruiting a new Governor to join our team and help ensure our students have every opportunity to achieve their best outcomes. Not for you? Please share this with someone who might be interested in supporting our charity.

At National Star, we’re proud to support our staff as they grow, develop, and progress in their careers ✨

Facilitator Olly shared: 'Whilst working for National Star, I've completed my Level 2 Diploma in Health & Social Care, my Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship, and my Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training. Working for National Star has given me opportunities to develop my skills in health & social care and education so that I'm able to support our students to a high level during their time at college. The CPD department is incredibly knowledgeable and supportive, so I highly recommend National Star as a place where people can come and develop themselves within their careers.'

Facilitator Goabaone shared: 'I am grateful for the unwavering support from the Education Department at National Star. Balancing work and study is a significant undertaking, but their guidance and support are making it more achievable.
The team is currently facilitating my progress towards achieving my functional skills qualification, thereby paving the way to Level 5 and a future in Teacher Education.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude for their support, a massive thank you.'

👏 Congratulations to Olly and Goabaone! Your dedication, passion, and commitment to personal and professional growth are inspiring!

We are THRILLED to announce that we have raised £3,479 over the weekend while hosting at the Snowdrops Tearooms!

We couldn’t do this event without the fabulous cake bakers, donors and our amazing team of volunteers, one of whom is a current first-year student, Ella. You were all incredible.

Thank you to everyone who supported our charity this weekend. We can't wait to see you all again next year!

National Apprenticeship Week 2026 ✨

Supporting apprentices isn’t just about helping individuals grow it strengthens our whole organisation. James Palmer, IT Manager, shares how investing in training has transformed his team:

'Completing the apprenticeship while working full‑time was challenging, but incredibly rewarding. It gave me a real sense of accomplishment as I developed new skills.
The leadership and management modules significantly strengthened my understanding and have directly improved my approach to managing staff, contributing to a stronger management structure within IT.
The impact extends beyond my own role. My team leaders are progressing too, with one having completed and another currently undertaking the management training apprenticeship. This investment in leadership capability is building long‑term capacity, strengthening succession planning, and creating a more confident, skilled management team.
As a result, National Star is better equipped to support staff, adapt to change, and sustain continued growth through consistent, effective leadership.'

A huge thank you to managers like James who empower their teams, champion development, and help shape our future. 💙
