Gloucestershire Royal Hospital – Update

This morning just before 8am, a small fire occurred on the 8th Floor of the Tower Block (Ward 8A). The fire was quickly contained and there is no ongoing risk.

Some patients were temporarily moved as a precaution and relatives of those patients are being contacted directly. We apologise to patients and relatives for any disruption caused by these temporary moves.

No patients were harmed, but some of our colleagues are being monitored for smoke inhalation. The affected ward is closed for cleaning and ventilation.

We are very grateful to the Fire Service and all our staff, including colleagues from Gloucestershire Managed Services for their prompt and professional response. Full statement: https://ow.ly/qnrc50XmoRI

🙏 Please support us today by calling NHS 111 if you need urgent care and considering alternatives, as our Emergency Departments are very busy.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your fang-tastic feedback!

We wouldn't want you to go anywhere else either!

Here's to a happy, safe and considerate Halloween! It’s good to be mindful on days like today that not everyone loves a fright night. Spooky surprises, strange noises, and scary decorations might be distressing or cause confusion for some of us so let’s keep the scares silly and the spirits friendly!

📢 Reminder for parents of children at primary school or secondary school up to Year 11: Flu vaccine permission slips

Flu season is on its way, and protecting your child is more important than ever. ✅ Please check your child’s school bag and return the permission slip or complete the online consent form if you’ve been sent one as soon as possible.

💡 Why is the flu vaccine important?
• 🤒 Flu can make children very unwell and sometimes lead to serious complications like pneumonia or bronchitis.
• 🛡️ Children spread flu easily - vaccinating them helps protect your family and the wider community, including babies, older relatives, and those with health conditions.
• 👃 The vaccine for children is quick, painless, and given as a nasal spray - no needles involved.

Returning the consent form—whether on paper or online—means your child can be vaccinated at school and helps keep everyone healthy this winter. 🌟
