GettingTheBasicsRight

🏨First Aid Training starts with. ..

Infection control

The first aspect of any safety environment is infection control

📋In the classroom , this includes our first aid training kit, particularly the manikins we use for CPR and defib practicals.

Whilst rescue breaths are optional, when delivering we always use face shields on manikins with a one use only policy.

🥼Manikins are cleaned down with sterile wipes after every use , and here we are changing the lungs.

Now the manikins, trainer and learners at the ready!

Because safety matters , and that starts with getting the basics right ✅️

🆘️Public Hearts Defib No 85 at East Glos Club was used successfully on saturday evening 17 January to assist an individual in cardiac arrest. The defib was quickly taken to the scene by one of the restaurant staff.

⚡️The defib an IPAD SP1 C U MEDICAL Systems defibrillator delivered a shock to the individual and was further supported by Southwest Ambulance Service.

🚑The patient was taken to hospital for further care. We wish him a successful recovery.

👍 Well done to the East Glos Team quick thinking , action and support - all of which are vital in the event of a medical emergency , and particularly in a cardiac arrest when moments matter.

Defibs Save Lives and this is exactly why our not for profit and voluntary community defibrillator campaign was created 💚

Neuroscientist Ben Rein is on a mission to show that being around others not only feels good, but can even improve recovery from strokes, cancer and heart attacks. So why are so many of us isolated and glued to our phones?

With 111 publicly accessible defibrillators in Gloucestershire (and 3 further afield) Public Hearts' volunteers are supporting increased seasonal defib access, maintainance and checks.

One of our key strengths is our relationships and that's the focus for 2026 - more collaboration and increased impact. Together.

Starting with.... Laura Bullivant & Aid For Ukraine Gloucestershire 🇺🇦

Home to Defibs No 87 in Gloucester, Nos 88 101 & 102 and already a significant part of our Defib Family, we're backing up their humanitarian work in Ukraine with the provision of tourniquets, hemostatic kits and whatever first aid and trauma kit we can get our hands on, as well as continued defib pads , batteries and spare kit to keep those units operational and emergency ready.

And on the home front, we will also be fundraising for a defibrillator for the Ukrainian Association, which supports nearly 3,000 young people.

Want to get involved? Everyone's welcome and everyone matters.

🕌 Public Hearts Defib No 29 Mosque Ryecroft Street Gloucester

⚠️ After bring accessed 2️⃣x over the festive week and consistently cold weather, we are doing full service checks on our defibrillators.

🛅 This Zoll AEDPLUS is rescue ready and benefits from being housed in a heated and locked cabinet. The heater's been on overnight, and this makes a big difference both in the shelf life of the batteries, and also optimises the defib's 'ready to shock' delivery time.

Appeal launched to find missing defibrillator in Cheltenham

Community campaign calls for help to locate vital life-saving device

Author: Jessica McGillivray
Published 9th Jan 2026

A Cheltenham-based community campaign is appealing for help to locate a missing defibrillator last accessed on 14th December.

Public Hearts, a not-for-profit and voluntary initiative founded by Clare Seed, aims to ensure publicly accessible defibrillators are widely available to save lives during cardiac arrests.

The missing defibrillator, designated number 54, was typically located at Fioro Lounge on Bath Road but has not returned to its cabinet after being used.

Defibrillator #54 is a ZOLL AED Plus model, bright lime green and housed in a black carry case resembling a medium-sized handbag. If anyone has used the device or knows its whereabouts, they are encouraged to contact Public Hearts at 01242 371999.

Clare told Greatest Hits Radio the campaign has been working with the South West Ambulance Service and local guardians to locate the missing defibrillator, but the appeal is now reaching out to the wider public to amplify efforts.

Without a defibrillator, the chances of survival during a cardiac arrest are extremely slim.
