Celebrating a Successful 2nd Annual Diabetic Foot Education Event 🚀
‘s words:
It brings me great pleasure to announce that we successfully held the 2nd Annual Diabetic Foot Education event at St. George’s Hill Lawn Tennis Club, one of the most esteemed venues in Surrey. This significant event, organized by Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, reflects our commitment to advancing diabetic foot care.
We were honored to host our keynote speaker, Prof Michael Edmonds, a pioneer in introducing multidisciplinary teams (MDT) at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in 1981. Along with Prof. Edmonds, we had the privilege of hearing from specialized doctors such as Mr Alex Wee and Mr Nathanael Macdonald who delivered impactful talks during the session.
A huge thank you to my team for their consistent efforts under the guidance of my consultants, Mr Ashwin Unnithan and Dr Gautam Das. This education event aimed to reflect on our challenges as a trust, improve patient outcomes, and address real-life problems by finding the middle ground between clinical best practices and on-ground challenges for both patients and clinicians.
My heartfelt thanks go to Sally Greensmith, Head of Quality Improvement Partnerships; Catherine Parsons, our IV Specialist Nurse who leads the WD Clinic; and Lyndsey Ritchie, our Community Podiatrist. Last but not least, a special thank you to my group of MAC doctors—Marisha Sharma, Aashish D Rayapati, and Aikaterini Eleftheriadou—whose support and dedication give this quality improvement project its credibility.
It was an honor to lead and learn more about diabetic foot infections and how we can deliver the best care for our patients. This year’s theme focused on the community side of the pathway, allowing us to engage with the community health professionals.
We aim to make this improvement project an annual work in progress so that Ashford and St. Peter’s NHS Trust becomes the epitome of diabetic foot infection care.
