🚨 Please be vigilant! 🚨
Officers are urging people across County Durham and Darlington to be aware of a telephone scam circulating that sees callers pretending to be from Durham Constabulary.
During the call, fraudsters posing as officers are telling people to go to a supermarket to purchase high value gift cards and then send them a picture of the serial number.
We want to take this opportunity to remind people that genuine police officers, your bank, or other reputable organisations would never contact you requesting money.
Only give out your personal or financial details to use a service that you have given your consent to, that you trust and that you are expecting to be contacted by.
Never assume that a phone call is authentic, and if you’re unsure, always hang up straightaway.
If you think you’ve been a victim of fraud, report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or online at www.actionfraud.police.uk
If you or someone else is in immediate danger or risk of harm, call 999.
