Me hugging a tree.

It was a cold walk this morning on Duke's Drive, but it was well worth the chilly fingers and toes for a lovely walk and chat with a friend and being surrounded by the ancient woods (and huggable trees).

I hope you are finding ways to embrace this winter season.

The Snow Moon rises tonight. The snow moon symbolizes endurance, strength, quiet power and patience.

Do you have a full moon ritual? I love pulling a 'moonology' card and practising Chandra Namaskar (moon salutations).

I will be sharing the moon salutation flow in class tomorrow morning (Gentle Flow Yoga at Hoole URC at 10am).

Wishing you all the best this 1st February.

Have you seen my new flyers at Hoole Community Centre ?

I'm so excited to start a brand new yoga class there next week! Class will be:

Thursdays, 6:30 pm - 7:30pm
Hoole Community Centre
Westminster Road, Hoole, Chester

It will be a flow yoga class, which is perfect for all levels, including beginners. I demonstrate and explain everything we do. I also encourage everyone to make the practice their own, by feeling free to modify, change and skip poses and take rests wherever needed. I believe yoga is not about what it looks like, but what it feels like.

Will you be joining the class? I still have spaces available. Please sign up ahead of time. I will add the link to sign up the comments.

If you have questions please ask me!

Heading to yoga in my new yoga socks πŸ˜Šβ€οΈπŸ§˜πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

These were given to me by a lovely couple in one of my yoga classes, and they truly made my day. Thank you!

I feel so lucky to have the nicest students ever... and with the best taste in socks!

This week's class theme: Yogas Citta Vritti Nirodhah, Sutra 1.2.

This can translate to: yoga is the cessation (or slowing) of the fluctuations of the mind.

As I like to refer to it: yoga helps slow down my 'hamster wheel of a mind'.

We all have busy lives and even busier minds. Yoga can be our chance to slow this busyness inside our minds. Providing us the opportunity to be in control of our thoughts. And even recognise that our mind isn't always telling us the truth.

It is a subject I absolutely love and I could dedicate so many lessons to this one sutra and spend hours chatting about it in depth.

But I am just touching on it this week in our yoga classes and allowing us time to step back from our thoughts and perhaps even recognise that we don't have to hold onto (or even believe) every thought that moves through our mind.

Thank you to everyone who made last night's yoga and meditation session such a wonderful evening of celebrating winter and all the cosiness it brings.

I hope you all enjoyed a relaxing cup of 'sleep' tea when you got home. And your sense of relaxation continues into the days that follow.

It was truly a gift to share gentle movement, breathwork and a winter themed guided meditation with you all.

I am already looking forward to planning future sessions. 😊

Breathe, sip, sigh. A simple and effective breathwork that we used in yoga class this week. Give it a try and see how it feels for you.

Take a deep breath in, then add an extra sip of inhale and then sigh It away.

Beautiful, but very chilly morning by the River Dee.

This week's classes are themed on Sutra 1.1: Atha Yoga Anushasanam. Often roughly translated to: now yoga begins or now the teaching of yoga begins.

Every yoga teacher has their own interpretation of these first words of Patanjali's sutras. Perhaps they mean welcoming a fresh start, living in the moment, an invitation to commitment or having a willingness to engage in yoga deeply.

It feels like a fitting theme for the start of a new year, and for many a start or return to yoga.

So how do we bring this to class. For me I lean into the 'now', using it as a reminder to be in this present moment. When we begin class I often welcome everyone to tune into the present moment and allow the hour of class to be fully for themselves.

Throughout our physical practice, as well as during relaxation, we can tune back into ourselves, tune into our senses and be fully connected to our present moment... the now.

I bring a different theme to class each week.

For those who came to class today - thank you, for those coming to class on Wednesday - I look forward to seeing you.
