💫About me!💫

Hey I'm Lucy, the founder of Step Ahead Vet Physio! The sole veterinary physiotherapist in the business, the diary organiser, vet referral document collector and social media creater...you get the gist!🥵🤣

As a child, my dream was always to work with animals, whether that be large or small💭
I started working at the age of 14 at a boarding kennels and grooming parlour, where I would spend plenty of weekends and school holidays helping out. My part time job list did not end there….I also groomed for a polo player, helped out at a local horse competition venue, milked cows on a dairy farm, and looked after friend's pets when they went on holiday🐴🐾🐄

In 2016, I began a BSc (Hons) course in Equine Science at Reaseheath College, which enabled me to further my passion for horses and widen my knowledge. Here I became interested in injury and rehabilitation and with some research found the MSc Veterinary Physiotherapy course at Harper Adams University📖

In July 2019, shortly after graduating with a first-class honour’s degree in Equine Science, I began my veterinary physiotherapy journey at Harper Adams. I graduated from Harper Adams as a Veterinary Physiotherapist with a masters in 2022. This was when Step Ahead Vet Physio began! I wouldn't change my little business for the world! ❤️🐴🐾🎓

Canine Arthritis Management 🐾🐾

MYTH:
“My dog gets plenty of exercise, so weight isn’t a concern.”

Fact:
Exercise helps, but calorie intake is the biggest factor in weight management. Even active dogs can gain weight if they’re eating too much or getting lots of treats.

Wilson had his initial physiotherapy today for an on going lameness. He had a gait and palpation assessment, followed by a muscle measurement assessment. He then was treated with laser therapy and provided with physiotherapy exercises. He was such a good boy!❤️🐾

Has your dog been struggling with lameness? We can help!☺️

Henry required his support monkey this morning during his session 🤭

He is having ongoing laser therapy to help with his weak hindlimbs❤️

🐕 How laser therapy helps with weak limbs

✅️ Reduces pain- Many dogs have weakness because movement hurts (e.g., arthritis or injury). Laser therapy can reduce pain signals, making it easier for them to stand and walk

✅️Decreases inflammation- Conditions like arthritis or soft tissue injuries cause swelling that limits movement. The laser helps calm this inflammation

✅️Supports nerve healing If weakness is due to nerve problems (like disc issues or nerve compression), laser therapy may help nerves repair and function better over time.

✅️ Improves circulation- Better blood flow means more oxygen and nutrients reach muscles and joints, which helps recovery and strength.

✅️Aids muscle recovery- When muscles are weak or atrophied, improved cellular activity can support rebuilding strength—especially when combined with physiotherapy

MYTH:
My dog isn’t overweight because they don’t look fat.

Fact:
Fluffy coats and gradual weight gain can hide excess fat. Feeling the ribs and checking the waistline is a better way to assess body condition.
