Bridgegate Physiotherapy

Bridgegate Physiotherapy Expert therapists who get to the source of your problem to reduce pain and restore function What conditions can be helped with physiotherapy?

Katie Copeland’s Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic situated in the heart of Chester City Centre was founded in 1987 and by virtue of its continued excellent reputation has grown from a ‘one man band` to the present day multidisciplinary practice including six experienced Chartered Physiotherapists and Sports Massage Therapist. Ideally situated for city centre workers as well as those travelling from surrounding areas, Katie’s practice continues to provide physiotherapy of the highest standard and enjoys good relationships with GPs, Consultant Orthopaedic Specialists and Sports and Health clubs. Katie is also particularly proud of the large number of self referral patients who come under the “word of mouth” heading which speaks for itself in terms of reputation. A physiotherapist is qualified to assess and physically examine patients which along with careful history taking can make a clinical diagnosis of a painful or stiff condition that is preventing normal movement and function. There are many conditions that can be helped by physiotherapy below are some of the more common ones:-

-Neck and Back Pain

-Sports Injuries (from the keen amateur to the elite sportsman)

-Sciatica

-Whiplash injuries

-Rehabilitation following fractures

-Work Related Symptoms

-Postural Problems

-Pre and Post Operative Orthopaedic Surgery (cruciate ligament reconstruction, cartilage removal, joint replacement, rotator cuff decompression/repair)

-Overuse/over training problems (tennis elbow, achilles tendonitis, shin splints)

-Gynaecological/obstetric (stress incontinence, exercises ante and post natal)

Disabled people have access to street parking outside the practice, however others may have to use car parking facilities in the surrounding area.

Ski season is here! 🎿⛷️❄️🏂

Ski fitness is really important to prevent injury and ensure you get the best out of your holiday (not sitting out because your legs are too sore). Especially if you are not doing regular fitness throughout the rest of the year.

Here are some exercises to get you going and improve your strength and stability (especially around the thigh and buttock muscles) They are easy to do at home and no equipment is required.

Start by doing;
x10 reps of each exercise
x3 sets
with a 1 min rest between each set x2/3 times per week.

An even better idea would be to book in with our Personal Trainer Angharad. She can prescribe and guide you through a personalised ski fitness exercise programme in our fully equipped rehab gym.

Menopause is a natural stage of life, but it can bring more than just hot flushes! Many women notice increased aches, stiffness, fatigue and muscle weakness during this time.

As ostrogen levels drop, it can influence almost every tissue in the body, not just the reproductive system. Oestrogen helps to protect bone density, maintain muscle and tendon strength, and reduce inflammation.
When levels decline, several things can happen:

* Joint pain and stiffness become more common
* Muscle mass and strength naturally decrease
* Bone density can decline more quickly, increasing the risk of osteopenia and osteoporosis
* Tendon health can be affected, making tendon pain or repetitive strain injuries more likely
* The risk of developing frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) increases, particularly in perimenopausal and menopausal women, as hormonal changes can impact connective tissue flexibility

Menopause is a whole-body transition and can have a profound effect on many aspects of your health and wellbeing. You don’t have to accept pain or stiffness as part of getting older.

At Bridgegate Physiotherapy Clinic, our physiotherapists take a holistic approach to help you move better, build strength safely, and feel more like yourself again. Whether you’re managing new joint pain, recovering from injury, or simply want to stay active and confident through menopause, we’re here to help.

An amazing project that our Physiotherapist Lauren is now involved with The Hera Project ‘empowering women in elite cycling’ Love it!

We’re thrilled to welcome Lauren Cook to The Hera Project team!

Lauren joins us as a highly skilled and compassionate physiotherapist, graduating with First Class Honours from the University of Salford. Alongside her degree, she completed a Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage, further strengthening her hands-on clinical expertise.

Her experience spans both the NHS and private practice, including work with professional football teams and within hydrotherapy services. Most recently, Lauren worked in private practice in Glasgow before returning home to Chester.

Lauren brings a truly holistic approach to physiotherapy, considering both the physical and psychological elements of every condition. She treats a wide range of musculoskeletal presentations but has a particular passion for sports-related injuries. This interest is fuelled by her own impressive sporting background, she competed nationally in swimming, medalling in the 200m butterfly, and regionally in athletics and netball.

Outside the clinic, Lauren enjoys staying active through weightlifting and running, and she’s always keen to explore new places whenever she can.

We’re excited to have Lauren on board and can’t wait for the team to benefit from her expertise.
