Over a year ago I had made movement before and after the hands on bodywork a non-negotiable part of my sessions. I joked that my clients need to “earn” the right to get on the massage table.
I was not just being mean to my clients. Majority of them by then would automatically kick off their shoes and socks and start walking. And talking. I would ask them questions about how this feels, or that, comment on what I observe. Then I’d mirror it back. And we’d explore the possibilities of moving in a different pattern. We would bring awareness to the parts that were not included, do minor adjustments, focused movements and suddenly their gait changes and range of motion improves. And pain is relieved or dissipates. They often thought it’s magic. It is - theirs. Magic of being more in their bodies. More YOU in YOU!
What became crystal clear to me in over 16 years of my bodywork practice is that without building somatic awareness (working on our embodiment) there cannot be much lasting change and improvement. Without being aware what we are doing, how we do it, and how does it feel when we do it we are bound to repeat the same things over and over. And if you do that same thing repeatedly and expect different results… you know how that saying goes.
The good news is, it does not take much effort. Body wants to be listened to and honoured. Once you get out of your own way, it self-corrects rather quickly. And when you practice better way of moving and fine-tune your postural habits you create a lasting change. All it takes are a few incremental changes to start building on and those few tweaks have cumulative effect.
It’s often times not what, but how we do it, that makes all the difference!
What does the session entails?
Before the session:
You’d need to book in and fill in the detailed client intake form.
During the session
We will go over your history together as I start building the clear picture of your patterns held in your body. There will always be more stories and clarifying your needs and your health history.
Then I will ask you to walk and do simple natural movements depending on what you are presenting with. I will be watching for disturbances in your movement patterns, explain what I see and demonstrate the corrective movements etc.
The exercise you’ll learn to perform correctly will be part of your homework plan.
BONUS: EFT for pain management and trauma release (when applicable)
After the session
Do the exercises and enjoy the improvements to the way you feel in your body.
