Okay, here me out…

I feel like there’s a million and one posts on social media saying discipline is key for your movement practice whether that be yoga or gym or running or *insert favourite exercise here*.

Now don’t get me wrong a routine or “discipline” of course helps.

BUT…

There are also many factors which might be being completely ignored here.
🧬 hormonal differences between men and women - hello 24hr/ 28 day hormone cycles
😴 burn out - physical and emotional
🌀the 4 stages of our female hormone cycle - sometimes movement is key here sometimes rest is exactly what you need
🤍recovery - not everything someone is recovering from is visible and recovery takes time
✨ hormones again but adding ‘stress’ from exercise to an already stressed and burnt out nervous system and body could be doing more harm than good.

In other words, if you’re listening to your body and what your body actually needs this is key to overall health and wellbeing.
If your feeling strong and want to be squatting 100kg go for it
If it’s a yin yoga practice go for it
If it’s taking a nap go for it

There a massive difference between avoiding movement and resting when your body and mind need it

Been working with the Earth element this week, grounding, presence, stability, safety

Every time I step on my mat, I’m reminded of the grounding power of earth.

To root down, to feel steady, to let my foundation hold me while I explore the edges of balance and shape

📱 less screen time
💦 hydration
🧘🏼‍♀️ gentle movement even for 5 mins
☀️ nature and natural light

It really doesn’t need to be complicated or included multiple steps. Keep it simple. Make it work for you
