Its Rare Disease Day!

But what is classed as a 'rare disease'? A disease is classed as 'rare' when it affects fewer than 1 in 2,000 people.

Did you know that 70% of rare diseases start in childhood? And that 72% of rare disease are genetic?!

The long-term goal of the Rare Disease Day campaign is to ensure equitable access to diagnosis, treatment, healthcare, social support, and opportunities for those affected by rare diseases.

We're a registered Safe Place! πŸ₯°

Keep Safe Cards are available to all adults who live in Derbyshire.

The card has space for you to write your name, the name and phone number of a family member or carer and anything else a person might need to know about you.

If you're out and about and you need help, you can take the card to a Safe Place to ask for help:
- Find you somewhere safe to wait
- Use the information on your Keep Safe Card to call your family, friends or support staff
- Call the police or an ambulance if it's an emergency

MEET THE TEAM!

Introducing our lead pharmacist - Guillermo, also known as G! πŸ’Š

G has been a fully qualified pharmacist since 2022 and joined Inspire Health in June 2023. He is a 3rd generation pharmacist, his father and grandfather (both also Guillermo) were both pharmacists and started the Guillermo legacy back in 1913!

πŸ‰ Until his knees betrayed him, he used to play rugby and his 'almost claim to fame', is that he had the potential to play for Spain but was injured and stopped playing before he was selected!

G openly talks about how he has ADHD and is on the autism spectrum. He has a firm belief that having a learning difficulty shouldn't stop you from doing what you want to and serves as an example to follow your dreams!

Today is world cancer day

World Cancer Day is an international day observed every 4th February raising awareness about cancer, encouraging its prevention, and mobilising action to address the global cancer epidemic.

Prostate, breast, lung, and bowel cancers account for over half of all new cases in the UK

Let’s honour those we’ve lost, support those living with
cancer, and raise awareness for better prevention and treatment options.

It's not nice seeing your little one struggle, but did you know that children with a normal immune system and up to date immunisations suffering with these ailments will usually feel better in the same amount of time WITHOUT antibiotics?

Find out how to help your children’s recover at home, and know when to seek medical help:

Two extra inpatient beds will stay open for more than 12 months – thanks to you. πŸ’œ

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, our Save a Precious Bed appeal has raised Β£550,000, more than doubling its original target.

This means two specialist inpatient beds at Ashgate are protected for more than a year, helping us care for more people at the end of their lives when they need us most.

The funds raised are restricted to keeping these beds open and have also protected the equivalent of four nursing roles and three healthcare assistant roles for the next 12 months.

Your support is making a real and immediate difference – not just to our hospice, but to the people we care for and those important to them.

Thank you for standing with Ashgate Hospice. πŸ’œ

If you’d like to continue supporting the appeal, please visit our website: www.ashgatehospice.org.uk/precious-bed
