🔊Weather and roads update: Unfortunately isn't being kind to us and we've had to close the A617 approach to Chesterfield due to Hornsbridge flooding. We've also closed Tom Lane in Duckmanton due to flooding causing an issue to vehicles.
🌧️Motorists travelling on the A6 at Darley Dale, along the stretch near Haddon Hall between Bakewell and Rowsley and Ashford-in-the-Water are also urged to drive with extreme caution due to surface water causing issues.

Judi Dench has her own “secret woodland” on her six-acre property in Surrey — and it’s more than just a garden.

For decades, she’s planted a tree every time someone she loves passes away, turning the grove into a living memorial. She even planted one for her husband, actor Michael Williams, after he died in 2001.

In the 2017 BBC documentary Judi Dench: My Passion for Trees, she said these trees feel like part of her “extended family,” a place where memories can keep growing.

A beautiful reminder that even in loss, something meaningful can grow.

Today, we’re asking for your help.

We’ve launched an urgent appeal to save two of the nine specialist beds that are due to close because Ashgate Hospice isn’t being funded fairly.

If nothing changes, North Derbyshire will be left with just six specialist hospice beds. That means more people reaching the end of their lives without the expert care they need - and deserve.

But together, we can make a difference. We’re hoping to raise £244,000 to keep two of those beds open for the next six months. That would mean around 25 of the most unwell people can receive the care they need, and the people important to them can be supported through an incredibly difficult time. And if our community raises even more, those beds could stay open for longer.

Every pound you give will go straight to frontline care. It means nurses at the bedside. Symptoms eased. Comfort, dignity and expert support when every moment matters.

Our community has already shown extraordinary generosity - and today, we’re asking again for your help to protect the care that means so much to so many.

Please give what you can to help save a precious bed. Every single hour of care makes a difference.
