Mr John Robert Taylor of Staveley has passed away at home aged 70.

Born in Chesterfield, John was a lifelong resident of the area.

John started work as a chef at the Station (later Chesterfield) Hotel. After gaining his catering qualifications, he had a short stint at Staveley Chemicals, before spending 12 years in the army, serving in Northern Ireland, Germany, Beirut, and other places. John left the regular army in 1987 and signed on with the T.A. He continued to serve until 2011 as part of the Royal Logistics Corps. He also made a return to the Chesterfield Hotel until 2012. He moved on again to work in catering at Massarella's.

John loved visiting the coast - especially Bridlington. He was a huge Beegees fan and loved Motown. For many years, John was a committee member at Inky Social Club and would often call the bingo there.

John's funeral will take place at Chesterfield Crematorium on Wednesday 11th March at 9:45am.

Dr Paul Jacobs of Staveley has passed away at home aged 65.

Born in Chesterfield, Paul was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a doctor in engineering, retiring 5 years ago.

In his spare time, Paul had a keen interest in steam engines and vehicle mechanics. He was a Liberal Democrat local councillor for approximately 10 years.

Paul leaves his wife - Margarita.

Paul's funeral will take place at Staveley Methodist Church on Friday 13th March at 11:45am.

Mr Edwin Daniel James Bown of Peterborough has passed away in Peterborough aged 41.

Born in Sheffield, Edwin lived locally for 20 years. He was a customer host for the East Coast Main Line with 13 years service.

In his spare time, Edwin enjoyed travelling, socialising and supporting Sheffield Wednesday.

Edwin leaves his mother- Susan and daughter – Amelia.

Edwin’s funeral will take place at Chesterfield Crematorium on Friday 20th March at 12 noon.

Born in Plymouth, Barry had lived in Inkersall for 62 years - all his married life. He was employed as a foreman at Coalite.

In his spare time, Barry enjoyed gardening and lego.

Barry leaves his wife - Pam, children- David and Steph, and three grandchildren.

Mr Harry Barnes of Dronfield has passed away at the Green Care Home, Dronfield aged 89.

Born in Easington, County Durham, Harry had lived in Dronfield since 1969. Harry proudly represented North East Derbyshire as the Member of Parliament from 1987 until retiring in 2005.

Harry’s interests included his family, Democratic Socialism, politics, the Labour Party, trade unions, Iraq, Iran, political education, philosophy, Sunderland AFC, non-league Sheffield FC, reading opera, theatre, music and Easington Colliery.

Harry leaves his wife – Ann, children – Stephen and Joanne, and grandchildren – Joseph and Amy.

Harry’s funeral will take place at Chesterfield Crematorium on Monday 9th March at 10:30am.

Those attending are requested to wear a splash of red. Family flowers only. Donations in Harry’s memory will be received on behalf of Alzheimer’s Society.

Mr Garry Alton of New Whittington has passed away at home aged 76.

Born at Grassmoor, Garry had lived locally for 58 years and had been employed as a moulder at Staveley Works.

In his spare time, Garry enjoyed pigeon racing, fishing, and all sports. He loved holidays in Benidorm and spending time with his great grandchildren.

Garry was predeceased by son - Richard. He leaves his wife - Dorothy, children - Jane and Gareth, grandchildren- Lucy and Chantelle, and two great grandchildren.

Garry's funeral will take place at Chesterfield Crematorium on Friday 6th March at 9:45am.

Mr Barry Kay of Chesterfield has passed away at Chesterfield Royal Hospital aged 86.

Born in Chesterfield, Barry was a lifelong resident of the area. Before retiring, he was employed as a painter and decorator.

In his spare time, Barry enjoyed clay pigeon shooting, target shooting, archery, and wine making.

Barry was predeceased by his wife - Janice Marjory Kay and grandson - Peter. He leaves daughters - Cleo Jill and Eleanor, son - Edward Gavin, and grandchildren- Sam, Jake, Benn, Emily, and Christopher.

Mr John Hadfield of Boythorpe has passed away aged 77.

Born at Fairfield Nursing Home, John was a lifelong resident of the area. He had been employed as a printer’s assistant at Robinsons, a houseman at Chatsworth House and a support worker at United Response, before retiring at 66.

John was a member of Chesterfield & Derbyshire Dales Ramblers for nearly 40 years. He enjoyed many holidays with Diane and was a keen gardener. John enjoyed watching his sons play football and rugby as children. John also liked watching and playing snooker.

John leaves his wife of 52 years – Diane, sons – Stephen and Peter, and step granddaughter – Alyssa.

John’s funeral will take place at Chesterfield Crematorium on Tuesday 3rd March at 12:45pm.

Born in Poolsbrook, Pearl had lived locally for 71 years. She had been employed at James Smith's, Staveley and Trebor, before retiring in 1985.

In her spare time, Pearl enjoyed socialising with family and friends, holidays abroad, knitting, sewing, reading, baking, and gardening.

Pearl was predeceased by son - Eion. She leaves children- Sylvia and Terry, 11 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.

Born in Barnsley, Richard had lived locally for 27 years. He had been employed as a sales rep with Howarth Timber for 40 years, retiring in 2023.

Richard was a keen supporter of Barnsley Football Club. He also enjoyed fishing, pool, rock music, cars and motorbikes.

Richard leaves his wife – Carole, step sons – Paul, Daniel, and Richard, and 8 grandchildren.
