Sad day in the office today… We say goodbye to one of our 'Old Guard' STAND TO Veterans....
He served in the Royal Artillery under national service, but Battery life wasn't for him! so he found sollace initially working in the cookhouse before finally being accepted as a Cook in the Army. He carried this trade on somewhat post service when providing 'posh nosh' and Sunday roasts for his family and friends when they visited. He returned to his family trade after leaving the Army coming from a family of builders, which took him around the world during his working life where he met his devoted wife and was married for 63 years! During this time they lived happily in France for over 20 years before returning to the UK to start the proces of retirement. Later in life as he was retiring he took up local politics as a Counsellor for his local area.
A larger than life character and avid Welshman through and through, he always looked forward to our brew and chat visits to put the world to rights and an opportunity to discuss his political views on the state of the nation. AJ had the pleasure of visiting him at his home in Wirksworth on his regular monthly rounds, having a mug of tea, pulling up a sandbag and having a laugh with him remembering his times in the Forces or what the lastest political hiccup of the week may be.
AJ attended the funeral today representing us all and has been thanked by the family for bringing a military style presence to memorial the service.
RIP 'Taffy'! - ‘till the final re-org mate!!🥃
