Buddies Day Service supports adults with a Learning Disability, Chromosomal Deletion Syndromes, Autism/Asperger's, Mental Health Diagnosis, Sensory Impairment, ABI. We are Mark and Debbie, a husband-and-wife team who, jointly, have six wonderful children, four of whom have a learning disability and/or autism. Over the years, we have experienced numerous difficulties in finding suitable care and provision for their individual needs. Over the past 20 years, as they moved from child services to adult services, this became even more challenging. This is an ongoing issue for many parents and carers here in South Gloucestershire, Bristol, and the surrounding area, where there is a real need for quality and appropriate provision of adult day care, which we and many other parents and carers agree, is not presently being delivered. For this reason, we set up BUDDIES, an adult day service for people with a learning disability, autism, mental health diagnosis, sensory impairment, acquired brain injury, predominately aged 18 to 65. This is not a rigid framework, and we can include someone over 65 and or transitioning from age 16. We are located on Station Road in Yate, right next to Yate Train Station and on one of the main bus routes from Bristol or Gloucestershire so very accessible. We provide a fun and entertaining place to spend the day with friends, where everyone who attends can feel safe, supported, and enjoy activities, tailored to their own specific needs. The activities include arts and crafts, bingo, puzzles, group games, board games, dance, karaoke, music, Makaton sing & sign, quizzes, cookery and baking, going out for walks within the local community, going out for coffee/tea/drinks, days out in the wider community. We will also encourage our users to tell us what they want to do, if it is appropriate and within our ability to provide it, then we will do so. our place, our space. This is simply because we want our guys to feel just that, their place, and their space. We are open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, from 9:30am to 4:00pm and we are now taking registrations for Monday and Wednesday for our service here in Yate. We would be delighted to discuss your registration and talk you through the admissions process.

Today we wanted to make the most of the dry weather, so we headed to Kingsgate Park for the Great Book Hunt.

We spotted ducks, swans and squirrels along the way, and even made friends with a couple of lovely dogs. There are so many daffodils in bloom at the moment – it really felt like Spring has finally arrived! 🌼📚

Our cooks and bakers had their first try at making Lemon 🍋 Curd today, they also made scones so we had something to spread it on 😋😍
After lunch a couple of our Buddies went swimming, while the others stayed and did jigsaw puzzles 🧩

Buddies Day Service visited SimWRX on the industrial estate this morning. We were given a tour and had the chance to try out some of the games. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and loved getting to experience something new.
Then it was hot dogs 🌭 for lunch 😋

Buddies Day Service is 4 today! 🎉
Four years ago we opened our doors with a dream of creating a day service where adults could feel welcome, safe, valued, and free to be themselves — a place to make friends, try new activities, and grow new skills.
✨ What a journey it’s been.
In these four years we’ve shared laughter, milestones, challenges, victories, and countless cups of tea. We’ve watched confidence grow, friendships flourish, and talents shine in ways that remind us why we started.
