November Pleasures
November teaches you to find warmth in quiet moments,
the hiss of a kettle,
the curling tendrils of steam,
blankets heavy with quiet.
You learn to measure joy in teaspoons,
honey swirling in tea,
breath soft and visible
against the morning chill.
The trees stand bare but beautiful,
honest in their simplicity,
and the fading light
feels less like loss
than invitation.
Cinnamon drifts through the dusk.
You light a candle,
not to chase away the dark
but to greet it,
to say yes to the hush.
Time slows its pulse.
You read without hurry,
walk without purpose,
and the sun lingers
on its way across the room,
as if reluctant
to leave.
And so you slow down,
not because the world demands it,
but because November reminds you
that even stillness
can be full.
