At this time of year many people can find themselves feeling low - the lull after Christmas, financial worries kicking in and feeling lonely as valentine's day approaches can all take their toll. When these feelings happen they can seem overwhelming but here's the great part - Little things make big differences, don't underestimate this. So if you are feeling low a good place to start is with the food you eat.
- Ensure you avoid ALL artificial sweeteners
- Limit the amount of chicken and eggs you consume to no more than once a week as they contain arachidonic acid (shown in studies to increase the risk of depressive episodes)
- Increase Whole-grain, tomato and seed (sesame, sunflower, pumpkin) consumption
Also - don't forget about fresh air and sunlight. If you don't have the energy or motivation to go for a walk just sit in the garden or with the window open and breathe in the fresh air. These may all seem trivial but consistently doing small positive things can help.
Most importantly - if you are feeling isolated and too overwhelmed visit mind.org.uk for information and to be able to talk to someone who can help.
