Today we had the absolute pleasure of celebrating Edna’s incredible 104th birthday 🎉
It’s been a truly lovely day filled with laughter, music and wonderful company. We enjoyed some delicious cakes- a big thank you to Edna’s family for kindly providing them – and raised a glass of non-alcoholic wine to mark the occasion.

We were also delighted to have a special visit from Rosie the dog, who brought plenty of smiles to everyone.
A special thank you to Peter for the music, which made the celebration even more memorable.
Happy 104th birthday, Edna – what an amazing milestone! 💐

Meet the team: Debbie 💫 - Assistant Manager.

Hi, I'm Debbie, Assistant Manager.

I've been working in the care sector for over 30 years. 21 of those at Genesis. I worked with Lorna previously, and my mum also attended Genesis, which is how I came to work here. I'm very proud of the amazing staff team we have and how caring, compassionate, and supportive they are for our families and each other. 💙

Meet the team- Tonia 💫 - Senior Care Support Worker

Hi, my name is Tonia. I’ve been with Genesis for nearly five years. Before joining the team, I was a stay-at-home mum, but I always knew I wanted to build a career in something I truly cared about — helping people.
Being part of the Genesis team means a lot to me. It’s a genuinely caring environment where everyone is treated as an individual. I’m proud to be part of a team that supports people in such a thoughtful and compassionate way. 💙

Hi my name is Ellie. I’ve been a care support worker at Genesis for nearly 5 years. Prior to this, I was helping to care for a family friend. Whilst doing this I achieved my Level 2 in the Principles of Dementia Care.
I love being apart of the Genesis Care team and helping to make a difference to the families that come to us. 💙

Meet the team: Janet 💫 - Cook

Hi my name is Janet. I have been working in the kitchen at Genesis for more than 10 years. I originally started out as the kitchen assistant but have progressed to being the cook.
I enjoy being part of the team and ensuring the service users have a tasty and nutritious meal. Outside of work, I like staying active by playing football and squash. 💙

Meet the team: Cheryl 💫- office administrator

Hi, my name is Cheryl.
My dad, who lived with vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s, attended Genesis as a service user for several years before moving into residential care. Through bringing him along and collecting him to help my mum, I got to know Lorna and the Genesis family – both the staff team and the service users. Even after my dad was no longer able to attend, Genesis continued to support my mum and me in any way they could.

I enjoy chatting with the service users and their carers whenever I can. They often have wonderful stories to share, and it’s always a pleasure to see the creativity and fun during craft activities. 💙

Meet the Team: Lorna 💫 - Manager

I was brought up by my grandparents and great-grandparents, so it was inevitable that I would come into contact with people living with dementia from an early age. Services were non-existent, and there was little change as I grew up. However, things had to change, and so I began working towards my dementia qualifications.
Genesis was set up 22 years ago to support the carers of people living with dementia, because if support for the carer ended, a care home often became the only option for the person they were caring for. We became a not-for-profit charity in 2015 and, although times have been hard and are about to get even harder, I am very proud of Genesis and our small but dedicated staff team.
Genesis means “the beginning” — it was, and still is, the start of a long journey. We have a dream to change how people living with dementia are thought about and consulted, but like all dreams it takes time and money. 💙

Meet the Team: Jackie 💫 – Care Support Worker

Hello, I’m Jackie. I have been part of the Genesis team for over 12 years. Prior to this, I cared for my mother-in-law, who had vascular dementia and attended Genesis. Seeing how much joy and support she received inspired me to join the team myself.
I love working alongside my colleagues and making a real difference in the lives of the people who come through our doors. Genesis is such a friendly and welcoming environment, and it’s wonderful to be part of it every day. 💙

Steph has worked with older people living with dementia for 26 years, including the last two years here at Genesis.
She loves being part of a team that helps bring purpose and meaning to each person’s day. For Steph, it’s all about creating a safe, caring environment where there’s always time for fun, laughter, and making special moments together. 💙
