This week is mostly fuelled by cold & flu lemon drink and ginger cordial! Adding ginger cordial is such a game changer!
I really struggle with feeling poorly - not because of the obvious discomfort, but because of the guilt feelings I carry with it.
This week I came home from my volunteer shift at the counselling charity on Tuesday at lunchtime and went to bed. I’ve pretty much stayed here since!!
I’ve had to cancel client sessions, plans to meet with a friend and help my parents with an online issue. And I HATE it!! I hate letting people down, I hate changing plans, I hate the idea of making others feel let down.
However, just like I’m always telling my clients, I have to listen to my body. I often use the analogy of a water jug when it comes to managing our energy and meeting our self care needs… you can’t pour from an empty jug and in order to help others you need to take time to refill your jug!
So, here I am with my ginger and lemon medicated drink, acknowledging the thoughts of guilt that come to my mind and letting them pass without judgement, knowing that taking time to rest and feel better will allow me to be the best therapist, friend and daughter that I can be.
Showing my self this kindness and self-love will aid my recovery, quieten the internal critic and strengthen my relationship with myself!
