Who says the holidays are for staying inside? ❄🦙
Our alpacas are out and about enjoying their winter walks! Even during the Christmas break, our care farm remains a hive of activity. Fresh air, movement, and animal connection don’t stop just because the calendar says it's a holiday. Keeping our animals active and our farm routines consistent is a huge part of what makes Skybound so special, all year round!

I had this book yesterday, my 10 year old bought it for me after I’d shown him this post from Victoria Bookshop. I read it all last night, it’s a short book, being sold only by our local Victoria Bookshop I believe, it is a must read for anyone working in the field of those with communication difficulties. Her explanations, her insight, her difficulties with communicating, her relief when people understood, can really help shape practice. There are lots of lessons to learn within this book. Listening to lived experience, of those such as Caitlyn, is invaluable and essential for practitioners. Thank you Caitlyn for sharing your story.

We have the new book by a very special girl,
Caitlyn Rose Griffiths, I Couldn't Talk, her second after
The New Actress. She has an amazing story to tell.

This is something I’ll never take for granted: Dan in a restaurant for Christmas lunch (for the second year running). A huge amount of work has gone into this—far too many individual behaviour programmes to list—years of effort by many people, and above all, Dan’s own willingness and perseverance. The skills that enable him to be in a restaurant for lunch have to be practised all the time—literally every day—things like waiting and accepting “no.” Then, a few times throughout the year, we bring all of those skills together in a restaurant to ensure that Christmas lunch goes as smoothly as possible. It mostly went smoothly, a huge bag of presents for him to unwrap throughout the meal to keep him busy and only one spilt drink! Thank you The Harbour Inn, Solva!

As we approach Christmas, I’ve been reflecting on what this season really looks like for the families we support at Skybound Therapies. While the world is full of "sparkle," I know that for many of our clients, the
change in routine and sensory demands can make this a very challenging time of year. ❤
I wanted to share a few thoughts on that reality, along with a little bit of the joy our team (and our wonderful animals!) feel every day working with you. Stick around until the end for some very special "Merry Christmas" wishes from the whole Skybound crew! 🎄🐾
From our family to yours, we wish you a peaceful and gentle Christmas.

One of our wonderful clients has been busy getting Skybound Therapies ready for Christmas by hand-making these incredible paper snowflakes. Beyond looking festive, activities like this are a fantastic way to practice fine motor skills, focus, and creativity.
We love seeing our care farm transformed by the hard work and talent of our clients.
Great job!

We are bursting with pride about this young person!

High levels of property damage now steadily dropping, in less than 3 months with us. Indices of happiness increasing, other behaviours that challenge also decreasing.

And how has this been achieved? Through increasing the range of enjoyable activities and improving functional communication to ensure they can get their needs met. Now he has been introduced to some of our animals and he adores them!!! Feeding horses, playing with golden retriever, feeding the goats, he adores it!

This is what implementing with unwavering support can achieve. We are so proud of our service user and the dedication of our team! Intensive Positive Behaviour Support has made a massive difference to him and his family. We are incredibly grateful to have had this privilege of working with them all. They are an incredible family who needed help.

When our children, young people and their families need us, we will endeavour to be there. This weekend our Cardiff and Vale team are embodying compassionate care whilst supporting a young person. The team are working extra hours to support a family who needed us and they do this with willingness, empathy and professionalism. They are overjoyed to see the young person displaying coping skills that they have worked on for the past year, to make this time easier for the person. The team’s proudness, enthusiasm and dedication is shining through. Well done young person, family and our team.

✨ Help Your Child Find Their Inner "Brave" with a Brave Jar! ✨

Does your child or even yourself struggle with trying new foods, starting a new activity, or facing those "scary" first-day jitters? Sometimes, the biggest hurdle is simply remembering that they can do hard things!
A Brave Jar is a simple, visual way to help your child build a "courage muscle" that carries over into every part of their life.

🏺 How it Works:
* Find a Jar: Any clear jar or container will do! Let your child decorate it.
* Identify "Brave Moments": It’s not just about big things. Bravery is trying one bite of broccoli, saying "hi" to a new friend, or staying in bed after the lights go out.
* Add a Token: Every time they show courage, add a marble, a pom-pom, or a slip of paper describing what they did.

🧠 Why it Actually Works (The Science Bit!)
This isn't just a craft—it’s a tool for generalizing behaviour. By physically tracking small wins, your child’s brain begins to recognize a pattern:

"I felt scared, I did it anyway, and I was okay."

Over time, they stop seeing "bravery" as something they only do once in a while. Instead, they start to identify as a "Brave Person." When they face a brand-new challenge (like a difficult math problem or a doctor's visit), they can look at that jar and remember they already have a history of overcoming the unknown.

> Pro-Tip: Focus on the effort, not just the outcome. Being brave is about the "try," even if it didn't go perfectly!
