Mental Health Week 💙🩵💙

Having struggled myself with mental health in the form of anxiety whilst at university and up until now in various forms, I am the BIGGEST advocate for exercise to help manage and prevent mental health issues.

My tips for you this mental health awareness week:

🫶🏻 start small - you don’t need to necessarily join a gym or sign up to a marathon. If you are just starting out, get into the small habits first and the rest will come! 20-30 minute walk outside a day 🌳

🫶🏻 take breaks from your devices when out on these walks, take in all the noises, smells and views without a screen to distract you, you will feel so much better and it’s amazing what you notice around you when your eyes are not looking down 📱

🫶🏻 if you are ready to find a gym, class or group exercise setting, in my opinion community matters most. Getting in the door of the gym is the big step but going in regularly and loving the place is the biggest win. Joining was the best thing I ever did. Yes the gym is incredible and the classes are spot on, BUT the biggest thing that keeps me going back is the community of people.

I have made friends for life at this place, top supporters, people who want to sign up to insane fitness events with me for “fun” 😆 and a place I am truly proud to now work 💙

✨Training & Experience ✨

My Reformer Pilates teaching has evolved a lot over the nearly 8 years that I have been qualified. The courses I undertook initially taught me an amazing amount but the learning really continues throughout your career.

The things I got taught initially aren’t wrong but as more studies are undertaken and more scientific evidence comes to light on the Pilates and movement elements we teach, it’s important to evolve and learn with it.

My practice now is very different from when I started. Having worked with 121 clients for a few years now, I have been able to learn how to best rehab and often prehab injuries from musculoskeletal, neuro and more. With my background in Sports Science and Physiotherapy, I am able to help in your recovery or fitness journeys back to full or functional health.

I have such a broad range of clients of all abilities and ages (16-90) and therefore no 121 is the same. I aim to structure a session and plan that works for you.

If you feel nervous to start exercise or if you are unsure Reformer Pilates is right for you, I am more than happy to have a chat and run through any concerns.

Honest Post Incoming… and a potential unpopular opinion…👀

I think it’s amazing that Reformer Pilates has taken off and has become so popular. Nearly 8 years ago when I completed my training, Ten Health and Fitness were one of the only studios around and now there is access to plenty of studios offering classes all across the UK.

Having said this, what makes me sad is that the principles underpinning Reformer Pilates and the specificity of movement patterns is being lost.

Classes in some cases now have 15+ reformers in one room and I just don’t believe an effective class can be taught to that many..

Movements can so easily be done incorrectly and ineffectively, even for the most seasoned Reformer - Goers. Some movements can also be dangerous if set up wrong or completed wrong. How can one instructor possibly teach their best class with that many bodies to keep an eye on?

I am not saying that Reformer Pilates needs to be strict and rigid or that some slight natural movement differences are not okay, but I do feel like it is becoming a “trend” that is moving away from its original and in my opinion, best form.

A little bit about me 🙋‍♀️

For those of you that don’t know, I started out in healthcare after completing an BSc (In Industry) in Sports & Exercise Science at University of Leeds. Following graduation I worked in cardiac and cancer rehabilitation as a sports therapist, and then for Ten Health and Fitness where I undertook my reformer pilates training back in 2017.

Wanting to gain some sales experience, I then worked in media and advertising for BBC Good Food where I learnt invaluable business skills that then enabled me to be confident setting up my own business - ELC Therapy.

I started ELC Therapy in 2020 after the pandemic and set about a journey of helping people get fit, stay fit, recover and live healthier for longer.

I now offer Sports Massage, Myofacial Release, Trigger Point Therapy, Taping and Strapping, Reformer Pilates 121 sessions & Pre-habilitation/ Rehabilitation.

As well as running my own clinic out of the fab , I also teach group reformer at the amazing gym in Surbiton called - I was a member before I taught there and can hands down say it is the most inclusive, friendly and rewarding gym to be a part of 🩵💪

Price Increases - April 2024

From April 1st, there will be a price increase to ELC Therapy services. The new prices will come into effect from this date forwards.

Increasing prices is not an easy thing to do but my prices haven’t changed in 3 years. These new increases will ensure I am able to continue to provide you all with the best possible service in both Sports Massage and Reformer Pilates 1-2-1.

I am however now excited to announce I will be allowing block massage bookings which include a discount 🎉 Perfect for those of you wanting those maintainence sessions!

This is what it’s all about for me 🥹❤️

Making people feel good, helping them achieve and helping them heal is what makes this job so amazingly rewarding!

Anna came to me with a ni**le 3 days before her first half marathon and was worried that she may not be able to take part. We had a session of sports massage where I treated the areas of worry and also took her through some ways to lead up to the run to help.

As you can see, she absolutely smashed it with a fab time and is keen to keep running. You go girl! 🏃‍♀️
