Do tablets always work?

Tablets work in most men (around 75%). If the nerve supply to the p***s is damaged, or if circulation is very poor, tablets may not work. Men with low testosterone levels may also be resistant to treatment.

Testosterone levels should be checked if not responding to treatment, particularly in younger men (under 35 years). If one type of tablet does not work, it is worth trying a different one. Men who have a poor response to treatment or worsening ED should see their GPs. All men should consult a GP before starting treatment.

What is acid reflux?

As part of the digestive process, the stomach produces acid. This acid is meant to stay in the stomach but in some people it leaks into the bottom of the gullet (oesophagus) and it can then also travel up to the back of the throat.

This causes a variety of symptoms including a burning feeling behind the breast bone (heartburn), sour/acid taste in the mouth and sometimes a persistent dry cough.

At what age do men start to lose hair?

There is no hard and fast answer, but at least half of male caucasians will have some hair loss by age 50. It can start in the 20s but more men become aware of it in their 30s and 40s.

There is a genetic link, so men tend to follow a similar pattern to men in both of their parents' families.

What causes acne?

Acne is often triggered by hormonal changes especially at puberty. Oil-producing sebaceous glands at the base of hairs in the skin are sensitive to hormone balance.

The oily secretions (sebum) naturally moisturise the hair and skin. In acne too much sebum is produced. It combines with shed skin cells and blocks pores, leading to blackheads and whiteheads developing.

The acne bacteria (cutibacterium acnes) grow in the blocked pores and cause inflammation, pustules, often leading to cysts and nodules as well.

How likely am I to get pregnant from having s*x once, if I have not used any contraception at all?

The answer to this varies depending on the day in your monthly cycle. There is a greater chance of pregnancy close to ovulation, which tends to be 14 days before the next expected period.

Averaged out over the whole month, estimates are that each single episode of s*x has a 1 in 20 chance of leading to pregnancy.
