On Monday 9th February, Clitheroe will play host to His Majesty the King 👑

He will briefly meet residents and well-wishers, before setting off to visit a number of locations in Lancashire.

If you are planning on visiting the area, please follow the below advice:

🚗 Plan your journey ahead of time. There will be a number of road closures around Clitheroe, including Station Road and other security measures in place around the town for the duration of his visit

👮 You’ll likely see more of our officers out and about. We're working with to keep you safe but if something doesn't feel right, follow your instincts and report it to us - we'll take care of the rest.

☁️ A temporary airspace restriction will be in place, from 9am-3pm on Monday, covering a large part of Clitheroe. This means that no Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) without prior permission from Lancashire Police Counter Drone Unit, will be permitted to fly in this area

We’ll be monitoring the airspace around the restricted area, with officers both in the air and on the ground, and drone pilots who don’t follow the rules risk prosecution and having their equipment seized. Don’t be caught out – our officers will be taking robust action to ensure the safety of the public. For more information about drone rules and restrictions (which recently changed) click here 👉 https://orlo.uk/0p5vw

As always, if you have any concerns or questions, approach our officers on the ground who would be happy to assist you.

Ribble Valley Borough Council has launched a public consultation to gather people’s views to help shape improvements to Clitheroe Castle grounds.

The council is investing in modern health and leisure facilities next to the historic monument, including developing an outdoor gym and improvements to the existing multi-use games area (MUGA) and skate park.

The public consultation, which is being supported by Trinity Methodist Church and Community Hub, Clitheroe, will help develop a clearly defined plan for the castle grounds.

Councillor Stuart Hirst, chairman of the council’s community services committee, said: “The castle and the surrounding park bring people of all ages together and it’s important that we invest in their future.

“We want people’s help in ensuring the grounds continue to be an attractive and fun place to visit for years to come.”

📅 Please note: Recent changes to our policy mean that your monthly repeat medication can now be ordered only up to three days prior to its due date. Orders placed earlier than this will not be processed. This adjustment aims to reduce unnecessary waste and prevent the accumulation of medicine.

💊 Should I buy branded or generic medicine? 🩹

Most medicines have two different names, a brand name and a generic name.

What is a branded medicine? The brand name is the name given to the medicine by the company that makes the medicine. Example: Calpol and Nurofen are branded medicines. Manufacturers of brand name medicines are granted several years when no other manufacturer can make that medicine, this period is covered by a patent.

What is a generic medicine? The generic name of a medicine is the name of the active ingredient in the medicine. Once a brand name medicine’s patent expires, other companies can produce and sell generic versions. Example: Paracetamol is the generic version of Calpol, and Ibuprofen is the generic version of Nurofen.

Are generic medicines as good as branded medicines? Yes. Generic medicines are carefully tested and regulated. They are equally effective.

Why do generic medicines look different? Generic medicines can appear different because they are produced by various manufacturers. This variation can include differences in packaging, shape, size, colour, and sometimes taste. However, these differences do not affect the way the medicine works, as it contains the same active ingredient as the branded version.

What if I have a problem with generic medicines? If you notice any side effects or feel unwell after using the medicine, please speak to your doctor or pharmacist. If you have any known allergies or intolerances, always let your doctor or pharmacist know before starting a new medicine.

Key reminders
• Always take medicines as prescribed by your doctor or pharmacist.
• If you have any questions or concerns about your medicines, ask your pharmacist or doctor.

📢 How to safely store medication at home 📢

To ensure the safety and effectiveness of medications at home, follow these guidelines:

💊 Keep medications in a cool, dry place: avoid bathrooms and kitchens, which can be warm and humid.

💊 Store refrigerated medications properly; if a medication requires refrigeration, store it between 2°C and 8°C and avoid leaving it out for extended periods.

💊 Keep medicines well out of reach and out of sight of young children and pets. Put them in a high locked cupboard or cabinet.

💊 Check expiry dates regularly; expired medications may not work as intended and could even be harmful.

💊 Use original packaging; medications in their original packaging protect them from light, moisture, and contamination. Avoid transferring pills into other containers unless instructed.

By following these steps, you can help ensure that your medications remain effective and safe for use at home. Always consult with a pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about medication storage.
