💖 Sharing the Love at Castlewood Care Home 💖

We were absolutely delighted to welcome the wonderful pupils from Ribblesdale School – Primary Provision to Castlewood for a very special Valentine’s afternoon.

What a joy it was to see cupcakes covered in sprinkles, icing and lots of imagination — but even more special was seeing the smiles, laughter and genuine connections being shared across generations. 🧁✨

Our residents thoroughly enjoyed decorating, crafting and chatting side by side with the children. Moments like these truly bring our home to life. Intergenerational activities are so important — they build confidence and empathy in young people, reduce loneliness, spark memories and create meaningful relationships for our residents.

At Castlewood, we believe a care home should be at the heart of its community, and afternoons like this show exactly why. 💕

A huge thank you to the pupils and staff for bringing such warmth and kindness into our home — we are already looking forward to your next visit!

🌟 Friday Feature – Meet the Team 🌟
Introducing… Alison, Senior Carer 💙

At Castlewood Care Home, it takes a strong, compassionate leader to guide our care team and today we’re shining the spotlight on Alison, one of our fantastic Senior Carers.

Alison’s role is all about leading from the front. She supports and guides the care team on shift, ensures our residents receive the highest standards of person-centred care, and is always there to offer advice, reassurance and a steady pair of hands when needed.

With her experience as a Senior Carer, Alison brings confidence, knowledge and calm leadership to every shift. She truly loves being part of the Castlewood team and takes real pride in helping to create a home that is not only safe and well-led, but warm, welcoming and full of compassion.

Roles in social care aren’t just about tasks they’re about teamwork, trust and heart 💛 And Alison demonstrates that every single day.

If you see Alison around the home, be sure to say hello! 👋

🔍 Myth Buster Monday

💬 We know there are lots of myths about care homes, so every Monday, we’re setting the record straight.

❌ MYTH: Moving into a care home means losing your independence and following a strict, boring schedule.

✅ THE TRUTH AT CASTLEWOOD: Care isn't about taking over your life; it’s about providing the support you need so you can spend more time doing what you actually love. At Castlewood, "independence" is at the heart of everything we do.

✨ How we champion independence at Castlewood: Your Day, Your Way:
There are no "set" wake-up times or rigid routines. If you’re a night owl or an early bird, we adapt to you.

✔️ Active Living: From gardening clubs and fitness sessions to local trips out, our activities are designed by residents, not for them.

✔️ Personalised Suites: Your room is your sanctuary. Residents are encouraged to bring anything they wish to make it truly feel like home.

✔️ Empowered Choices: Whether it’s choosing your dinner from our seasonal menu or working with our team in our state of the art ‘Wellness Suite’ to build strength and mobility, you stay in control.
By taking away the "chores" of daily life, like cooking, cleaning, and maintenance, we give our residents the freedom to rediscover old hobbies or find brand-new passions.

At Castlewood, we don't just provide a place to live; we provide a place to thrive, with the dignity and freedom every individual deserves.
Join us every Monday as we continue Myth Buster Monday, sharing the real facts about life in a modern care home.

🌟 Meet the Castlewood Team – Friday Feature 🌟

This Friday, we’re putting the spotlight on the magic behind the meals… Sharon, our Head Chef

Sharon brings over 20 years of chef experience to Castlewood — and she’s been cooking up a storm since she was 16, when she won Young Chef of the Year (clearly a prodigy).

Her absolute favourite thing to bake? A proper scone — the kind that makes you argue about jam vs cream first. And if you love an afternoon tea, Sharon is your person

Behind the scenes, Sharon’s skills go way beyond delicious treats. She has excellent IDDSI expertise, making sure every resident enjoys food that’s not only tasty, but safe, dignified, and tailored to their needs

And the best bit? At Castlewood, there’s always a fresh bake on the go — so if you pop in for a brew, chances are Sharon’s already one step ahead of you

Because great care deserves great food… and we’re very lucky to have Sharon at the heart of our kitchen

🔍 Myth Buster Monday

💬 We know there are lots of myths about care homes, so every Monday, we’re setting the record straight.

❌ MYTH:

Falls in care homes are unavoidable and can’t really be prevented.

✅ THE TRUTH AT CASTLEWOOD:

While falls can never be completely eliminated, many can be reduced or prevented through the right support, environment, and use of technology.

That’s why every bedroom at Castlewood is fitted with intelligent fall-prevention technology, Nobi lights 💡

💡 How Nobi Lights support our residents

✔️ Automatically provide gentle lighting when someone gets up at night
✔️ Reduce the risk of trips and disorientation in the dark
✔️ Detect falls and alert staff quickly if one occurs
✔️ Support independence while maintaining safety

This means residents can move around more confidently, especially overnight, knowing help is available if needed.

At Castlewood, we combine skilled care, thoughtful design, and modern technology to support safety, dignity, and independence not just react after something happens.

Join us every Monday as we continue Myth Buster Monday, sharing the real facts about life in a modern care home.

Community, Connection & Cake at Castlewood

We absolutely loved welcoming some wonderful pupils from Ribblesdale School – Primary Provision to our monthly community coffee morning today

There was such a lovely buzz in the room as jigsaws and board games came out, stories were shared, and conversations flowed between residents, children and members of the wider community. The smiles said it all
(And yes… the juice and cake definitely helped too! )

These moments are so special. Bringing generations together builds confidence, empathy and real human connection – and it’s exactly what community is all about.

We’re incredibly proud of the growing relationship we have with Ribblesdale School and can’t wait for many more shared mornings, laughter-filled visits, and meaningful memories together.

Thank you for being part of our Castlewood community

👋 Getting to Know Our Team – Friday Feature 👋

This Friday, we’re shining the spotlight on Adam, our brilliant Maintenance Hero here at Castlewood Care Home 🔧😄

Adam is the definition of a classic dad… and yes, that means dad jokes.
Lots of them.
Constantly.

If you hear a groan, an eye-roll, or a very loud sigh from the corridor, chances are Adam has just delivered another “absolute classic” of a joke and he takes great pride in having both staff and residents rolling their eyes in unison 😆

Behind the jokes though, Adam plays a huge part in keeping Castlewood running smoothly. From fixing and maintaining the building to making sure everything is safe, welcoming, and homely, Adam helps make Castlewood a place people love to live and work.

Roles in health and social care aren’t just care-facing it takes a whole team to create a warm, happy home. Maintenance, catering, housekeeping, admin, care… everyone matters, and Adam is a perfect example of that.

So next time you hear a terrible joke followed by laughter (and mild frustration)… you’ll know Adam’s nearby 😉

💛 Community, Connection & Smiles All Round 💛

We absolutely loved welcoming pupils from Ribblesdale School – Primary Provision into Castlewood Care Home this week as part of our ongoing community link. The children came in to read with our residents, and what a joy it was to watch these lovely moments unfold.

The pupils showed such confidence, patience and kindness, and it was heart-warming to see how naturally they chatted, laughed and connected with our residents. There were lots of smiles, shared stories, and a real sense of togetherness across generations. ✨

The visit was made even more special as it coincided with one of our residents’ birthdays – the children were delighted to sing Happy Birthday, creating a truly joyful moment that meant so much to everyone involved. 🎉

Bringing younger and older generations together is incredibly important. These visits help children develop empathy, confidence and community spirit, while our residents benefit from companionship, laughter and meaningful connections. It’s a powerful reminder of the value of mixing generations and learning from one another. ❤️

A huge thank you to Ribblesdale School – Primary Provision and their fantastic pupils. We’re already looking forward to welcoming you back soon!
