What is Salt Therapy? ๐งโจ
Salt therapy, also known as halotherapy, is a natural, drug-free treatment that involves breathing in microscopic salt particles in a controlled environment designed to mimic the microclimate of natural salt caves .
The concept originated in Eastern Europe in the 1800s when Dr. Feliks Boczkowski noticed that Polish salt miners had remarkably healthy lungs despite working in mines all dayโthey rarely got colds, coughs, or respiratory conditions that were common among other workers . This led to the development of therapeutic salt caves.
There are two main types:
1. Dry Salt Therapy (Halotherapy) โ Uses a machine called a halogenerator to grind pharmaceutical-grade salt into micro-particles (1-5 microns) and disperse them into the air ๐ฌ๏ธ
2. Wet Salt Therapy โ Involves saltwater baths, gargling, or nasal irrigation ๐
How Does It Work? โ๏ธ
The therapy relies on three key properties of pure sodium chloride (salt) :
1. Super absorbent โ Especially when completely dry ๐ง
2. Anti-bacterial โ Helps fight infections ๐ฆ
3. Anti-inflammatory โ Reduces swelling and irritation ๐ฅโก๏ธโ๏ธ
When you breathe in the dry salt particles, they travel deep into your respiratory systemโreaching your lungs, bronchi, sinuses, and even the smallest alveoli . The salt absorbs allergens, toxins, and foreign substances, helps break up mucus, reduces inflammation, and opens airway passages .
For skin, the salt particles absorb impurities, provide antibacterial benefits, and can help with conditions like acne, eczema, and psoriasis by regulating skin microcirculation .
What Happens During a Session? ๐ช๐ต
What to expect :
โฑ๏ธ Duration: our salt session is 45 minutes and the sound bath in the salt room is 1 hour.
๐๏ธ Environment: A spa-like room with Himalayan salt walls, soft lighting, comfortable zero-gravity chairs, and a salt-covered floor
๐ก๏ธ Temperature: Comfortable room temperature (20-22ยฐC), not hot like a sauna
๐ง Process: You simply sit back, relax, and breathe deeply while the halogenerator disperses salt particles
๐คซ Atmosphere: Quiet, we play soft music or nature sounds; many people fall asleep
Normal sensations you might experience :
๐
Slight salty taste on your lips
๐ฎ Tickle in your throat or light coughing (the salt working to clear mucus)
๐คง Increased mucus production or runny nose (your body clearing congestion)
๐ด Deep relaxation or drowsiness
โจ Skin feeling smooth or slightly tingly
