Thank you Kayte for being a voice for so many 😢

💚 Dear Parents 💚

Over the past few months, the private Early Years sector has been floored by new funding restrictions brought out by the Department for Education. For years, we have been chronically underfunded, but regardless, existing EY settings have pushed on to offer outstanding care and education for your children, despite crippling financial difficulties. Thousands were forced to close their doors for good.

Today, Keir Starmer and the DfE announced that 300 nurseries are opening in schools as an initial stage of a mass rollout. It is beyond frustrating; had they funded the PVI’s honestly, there would already be enough spaces for children without them needing to attend school at the age of 2 or 3.

There is something more today though that has really angered me; the marketing campaign that rolled out alongside it - the one where the DfE and our Prime Minister claim that these settings are a higher level of service and education than existing nurseries and childminders.

Let me make it clear, every private childcare setting is offering exceptional early education and care for your children. This Government are not ‘saving the day’ or creating better opportunities for your children. They are pushing them into school and deflecting from the funding scandal that is currently taking place. They want both parents back to work as early as possible to boost the economy and they want state-run nurseries.

Hear me when I shout it loud; your child does not need to be in school at 2 or 3. These nurseries are not offering anything above and beyond that of a private setting. They too will be underfunded, and they too will struggle to recruit enough staff. They will follow the EYFS just like the rest of us. The social media posts that I have read from MPs today are shameful, misleading and dishonest.

Your existing workforce are highly skilled in educating and caring for children in the first 5 years of their life. This is what we do, and we do it well. Your child will be more than school ready in a private setting and they do not need to attend a pre-school before starting in Reception.

Parents, I implore you to look further than the propaganda that has been rolled out today. Trust in your PVI settings, the passionate and skilled practitioners who care for your children each day - please support them at a time when they need you most.

Signed,

A very frustrated and disappointed childcare professional.

💕 Back to What I Love Most 💕

The past few years have been a journey—one filled with challenges, healing, and growth. In 2020 due to health reasons, I had to step away from caring for babies and the Early Years, a part of my life that has brought me so much love and joy for over 35 years.

During this time, I was fortunate to be able to return to caring for my four wonderful After-Schoolers—my pre-pandemic early years group, who I’ve loved and nurtured since they were babies.
I also had the unexpected opportunity to help my husband launch his travel business ✈️ something I never imagined being part of but truly enjoyed!

However, last summer, I felt fit enough and ready to return to what I love most. So, I began preparing to welcome new families into our home.
By Christmas, three beautiful babies had settled in, and our journey together had begun. Seeing their smiles, hearing their laughter, and being part of their early years journey is truly special 💕
I am incredibly grateful for the continued support of my wonderful families and a special thank you must go to Kayte from Kayte's House, and my husband, Lewis, who have been my biggest encouragers every step of the way. Your belief in me has meant the world, and I couldn’t have done this without you.
This new chapter is filled with gratitude, love, and the joy of nurturing little hearts and minds 💕

Happy Diwali to everyone celebrating this week!

The children have spent some time over the last few days exploring the festival of light with our friends from Kayte's House .
We have watched the shorts on CBeebies, read the books Diwali, Chapatti Moon and Lots of Lights. Tried some festival food together and made and decorated our own Diya lamps.

It was wonderful to receive a photo of one of my littlees eating his breakfast next to his lit Diya 🥰

Exploring different festivals in their community and around the world helps children to learn about a wide variety of culture, and similarities and differences between themselves and others.

A beautiful walk today to Abbey Farm to choose our pumpkins for tomorrow 🎃
Everyone had brought their wellies and a change of clothes which allowed for some serious jumping and splashing through some of the biggest and muddiest puddles we’ve ever seen.
The pumpkins were gigantic. Our chosen four weighed in between 12lbs and 16lbs. I was very thankful we had our wagon in tow to get them home again!

Our little pumpkin artists are in need of some more pumpkins to spook up, so today we are off to Foxes Farm Pumpkin Patch with our friends from Kayte's House.
Exploring the huge fields, we will be looking to see how many different varieties of pumpkins we can spy.
In particular, the little ones are keen to spot some ghost pumpkins as they are growing their very own ghost pumpkin for Halloween in their garden at home.
We have also tasked ourselves with who can find the largest pumpkin and who can find the smallest pumpkin!

Wellies are on, lets see how we do!

There was a rather exciting bus trip to Poplar Nurseries on Tuesday with our little friends from Kayte's House!

Garden centres are fabulous places for children to further their interest and learning about their outdoor world and how they can help to take care of it.
As well as the huge offering of seasonal plants, seeds and bulbs you can find a wonderful selection of wildlife feeding stations, nesting boxes and insect homes.

Our little ones were fascinated with Poplar’s excellent display of Hedgehog houses! Alongside the many different types of hedgehog homes and ornamental hedgehogs there were leaflets and information posters explaining how we can help our prickly friends as they settle down to hibernate for the winter.

Maybe next week we will make our own hedgehog houses! Watch this space ....🦔

Bonkers for Conkers !!
The horse chestnut trees are probably the first trees that children really connect with and it’s all down to these prickly capsules that contain the most beautiful smooth, shiny, mahogany conkers. The epitome of Autumn!
So far the little ones have a magnificent haul of over 300 conkers.
So how do we use them?
From counting to sensory tubs, to drilling holes in them and catapulting them, here are some of the ways we have used our conkers this year ...
