ANTIBIOTICS 💊
Time to address this ..... Yes it's often needed , BUT just lately I have seen a lot of patients who have been given antibiotics that were not needed. Typically for eustachian tube dysfunction or itching. These are prescribed either in oral or spray form and will not help with these conditions as they are not bacterial. No , I am not a GP but I am a university graduate and I know ears , outer , middle and inner. Correct diagnosis and treatment is essential.
OTITIS EXTERNA - inflammation or infection of the ear canal , often bacterial but sometimes fungal. Most commonly treated via topical antibiotic ear drops to reduce pain and swelling.
Quite often a clinician can micro suction the canal to allow drops to work more efficiently
OTITIS MEDIA - middle ear infection, often bacterial or viral, common treatment Amoxicillin (unless intolerance)
OTOMYCOSIS - fungal ear infection, commonly candida in the canal.
Thorough cleaning by clinical followed by topical anti fungal drops.
