It’s almost here - daffs are poking through - we are slowly sauntering into Spring and it means one thing for us……….Reno Time.

So - the dwarf perennial rye grass wins, and the fescue didn’t. We tend to tailor our approach even down to the grass types for larger spaces - this 6000m2 space needs some love after last years drought. We’ve tailored a plan to bring it back, and part of that is consulting on what’s the best seed blend to use.

Great to be back on the lawns - this 4500m2 beauty is looking fabulous - to think, a few years ago it had been decimated by chafer grubs.

This one is in a pickle - let’s see why; Drought damage, pest damage, compacted, can’t be irrigated - and some. However we have a plan and I would expect some good progress by end of spring if everything aligns nicely

It’s time to start the process - waiting for spring may prove to be a little too late when you can start now. Moss, Hypoxia, Yellowing and historical drought damage will benefit from a tailored plan that starts sooner rather than later.

Last summer exposed a lot of lawns.

Not always instantly.
But quietly.

Root systems weakened.
Soil biology slowed.
Sward density thinned.

Fast-forward to winter and we’re now seeing the consequences:

• Moss encroachment
• Soft, unstable surfaces
• Patchiness and thinning
• Poor spring response

Moss isn’t the problem.
It’s the indicator.

The real work happens below ground.

At The Lawnologist, we don’t chase symptoms.
We rebuild systems.

Through our Turf-Biotix® methodology we focus on restoring soil function, increasing rooting depth, improving oxygen exchange and driving turf density — so moss is naturally out-competed and lawns regain resilience.

If your lawn struggled through last year’s drought and still doesn’t look or perform as it should, now is the window to intervene.

Spring assessment programmes are now being scheduled.

Last year we started working with on their grass youth pitches at the back of the main stadium. They were overplayed, undernourished, sporadic growth and full of broad leaf w**ds. We sent off some soil samples, and with the results we then tailored a plan around the deficits, we got agronomical input from an outside specialist who agreed with the nutritional input and we set about to work - for context, the before pics were end of the Summer, the after pictures were taken on 28th December. Huge credit to the Groundsman Rob, who’s stewardship has been relentless

Give it a rest Lawno - he’s off again about Weeds and Moss

What on earth is he on about this time ???
MOSS - why are we seeing more moss this year ?
Well, here’s a good reason why moss isn’t just the problem, it’s more of an indicator there IS a problem.

Great few days spent with friends and peers at the winter conference. Discussing new products, methodology and ideas for best practices. We always come away with so much to work on.
