The sessions will provide an insight into what is good Mental Health and what is ill Mental Health.

We are teaching the most up to date protocols in First Aid, in line with the 2025 UK Resuscitation Council UK guidelines.

One of the key changes released was the pad placement when applying a defibrillator to a patient in Cardiac Arrest.

For patients over the age of 8 years old, or 25kg - the pad on the right side of the chest is the same as before (below the collarbone, and avoiding breast tissue). The pad on the left side now needs to be higher aiming for underneath the armpit to allow the shock to go directly through the heart.

For patients under the age of 8 years old or 25kg - the pad that goes on the chest, now is slightly off centre to the left side. The pad that goes on the back is the same as before directly between the shoulder blades.

Over the half term break, young carers from West Young Carers took part in hands-on First Aid training — and they were fantastic! 💚

Thanks to the brilliant team at ATH Training, our young people learned essential life-saving skills, including:

CPR – how to keep a heart beating during an emergency ❤️
Bandaging – how to treat wounds with care and confidence 🩹
Choking response – what to do when every second counts 😮‍💨

They even practiced CPR to the beat of “Stayin’ Alive” and “Baby Shark”! - The perfect tempo makes all the difference when doing chest compressions. 🎶

These sessions are a brilliant way to help young carers feel more prepared, capable, and confident in difficult situations. A big well done to everyone who took part!
